I don't think the hysteria/outrage you mention is as much as you think it is.

I hate literally everything about the XBone, save for the controller, and I know it will sell. I don't want to convince anyone to not buy one if the XBone is what they want. I just air my grievances in here because I absolutely hate the direction they are taking things. No reason to gunk up the forums with millions of threads.

The outrage isn't just a thing with no basis. MS is pissing off a lot of people. Obviously it will still be a retail success. I'm just iffy on the staying power of the system.

Though it doesn't directly effect me, since I won't be buying one ever... It does effect me because it impacts the biggest hobby of my life in a negative way.

I'm not sure how I really disputed that, and also meant to add in confusion, because as demonstrated by:

The information available isn't exactly clear-cut, though. We know Sony isn't changing anything with regards to DRM/used games and online. MS has created a new infrastructure and while we have information floating around we still don't know exactly how it will work and how restrictive it will actually be.

It's been a very blurry path from one actual release of information to another, none has been clearer than http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license though so that recent quote provided an opportunity to make that point is all.

Now if only we had information this family sharing stuff...

Agreed. Because I simply don't think there is enough clarity on how the Family Sharing Stuff works. They make it out like you can share all of these games you've purchased with family/friends but they don't specify how many times your friends can play those shared games. If it was as simple as they're making it out to be, I think they'd be getting blowback from the Publishers. No Publisher is going to be okay with cutting their sales and profit margin by near 60% with the current understanding of the Family Share. What is the incentive to purchase Madden 25, TitanFall or Halo when your friend has it in their shared games? Does this mean you get the game for free? So now EA and other publishers lose out on your purchase?

That all seems entirely too good to be true for the gamers and really "unfair" to the publishers. I think there are a few restrictions we're not hearing about yet and Microsoft is holding out on announcing them because they don't want to pile on to some of the bad rep they've gotten this week.

I was under the impression that only one person could play the game at a time. So multiplayer games everyone would need to own to play together. And single player games would be no different than someone on playstation lending a game to a friend.

The advantage I see in the family share is being able to do it over a dustance but at a cost of a limited amount of people on the family list. But that is my interpretation based off of the muddy information.

I try and steer clear of XB1 bashing because of the limitation with DRM and used/renting games policy. My question is why is there such an outrage? I read post after post about how Microsoft is screwing gamers and Sony walks on water. I don't understand this mentality.

First of all, it's better for us as the consumer if they BOTH succeed. What's wrong with having two great gaming consoles? Second - if you're posting on internet forums i assume that you have internet. It's been well documented how important next gen online gaming is, even in single player type games for both consoles. It's clear that most next gen games have an online component even while playing the single player (Destiny, The Division, etc). Even our beloved sports games need internet to update our rosters and keep it current. As far as sharing games, don't most friends buy the same game so they can play each other online? I don't give any of my games away to friends

I just can't make sense of the internet outrage. Is it just the 'IN' thing to do right now? I'm fairly certain some of the same people flaming the X1 will be picking one up in November. Sure its a downer for some that certain policies are changing but this is such a huge overreaction in my opinion.

This is me as well. The Xbox DRM stuff doesn't really impact me, but it is kind of annoying. I think it DOES effect a larger part of the gamer population than MS realizes though. Between that and price, I think PS4 is going to get off to a huge headstart with the early adopter crowd. Then when the mass market crowd starts to come in, PS4 will have 3 advantages - price, no DRM, AND the bigger online community. And then it's game over M$.

I am waiting until next fall (NHL 15) before I buy a system. If most of my friends are on PS4 at that time...it's bye-bye Xbox time.

Personally, I don't think the Xbox will die anytime soon. They'll still have good numbers at the beginning. Less than the PS4 obviously, but if/when digital gaming does take off with (possibly) better deals, and after the first price drop or so, this system will be bought up more. Just like the PS3 in the current-gen.

While I think I've finally settled on the PS4 (I really wanted to play Ryse), I will be buying one of these at some point. I'm actually hoping their digital vision does come to pass though because that is $15+ they will save on distributing the games. Even knocking things back down by $10 would be nice to me. Plus, we could even get some sort of rental service directly from them at some point. There are a lot of positives, imo, that could come from this system. I just think it's better for me to wait and see if they do happen though. Also, I'd like to save a little money .

I assume if you are currently playing a game, you either don't let your Family member play it or you give them access when you are not going to be playing it. It's a small comprise to play a game for free. I agree with the one guy, theirs more to this, no way they just let people play games for free, I know their some kind of restrictions.

The wording seems as though you and one other "family" member can play at one time. It says you can always play your games and one other can as well in the description.

So... maybe I'm still not getting it.. .but what's the big deal then? If you can still trade in games and get credit for them as we always have, or buy a used game for cheap after its release... What's all the commotion over? Sure the online every 24 hours part sucks, but... if the console like the 360 is always online anyways, whats the big deal??

So lost in all of this... Not sure what to do. Would like to stay with the Xbox1 because I enjoy playing through halo, and always have, but if I couldn't trade games back as I always do now for credit, then I didn't see much point in staying with Xbox... However if I still can... I'm not sure I see the big need to change now. I don't lend games, I don't rent, My console is already online, I don't move it around to places it can't get online, so really... I'm not seeing the big deal here, or am I still missing something? lol Damn them for making this so confusing.

A couple of points:

3rd parties publishers can prevent you from being able to trade in your games and Xbox 1 has the architecture that can allow them to do it. With the PS4, 3rd pty publishers wont be able to do that.

So if EA decides that it doesnt want people being able to buy Madden used on the XB1, it can.
