If we could only fastforward to E3.
It says "mixed" responses but other than one person I didn't find any negativity (and even he is still going to "buy one"). How is that really "mixed" ? All of that seemed like people are excited even a midst some uncertainty.

And what good does the intel do if no actual intel comes from it, if it doesn't affect the story at all? I just don't see the point I guess.

I have a friend who spends like 80% of the time he plays his PS3 trying to plat every game that he gets. It gets to the point where he has to grind for so long that he starts to lose enjoyment in the game. That's the exact opposite of immersion to me.
Those achievements from the COD games I agree are ridiculous and the cog tags and intel items are dumb IMO too because they offer no backstory. Plus there are plenty of games which I left in the dust because the game downright sucked and therefore missed out on a ton of achievements ex Maddens 07-11, NCAA football 07-10, MLB 2K in general lol...

Achievements have ruined how I play video games.

I have nothing against achievements for the record. I don't really like achievements points and "gamer"scores, but I can see why some do. Steam is starting to implement something similar now with the trading cards and user "levels" but at least you actually get useful things from participating in that.

I get what the author of the Kotaku piece is getting at, but I won't drop a game/stop playing if I can't get the achievements. I usually save most of them for secondary playthroughs if that. I like games like Skyrim, Fallout 3, or others that have achievements largely story based, so I'm not slaying 998 bunnies for a 10 point achievement.

Thats just the reality of my relationship with achievements. Nothing more nothing less.

If other people like them and actively strive for them, ok I been there too I get it (I have bought horrendous games just to add a quick 1000g just look at my gamercard). But I couldnt possibly care any less about them than I do now.

I wish I could disable achievements. When I see a friend that has like 30,000 all I think is...."Man, that dude has no life".

I'm sure some people look at my 12,000 an think the same.

Yep, I've got over 40,000 without really focusing on them for the most part.

Also depends if you are a achievement hunter. I for the most part dont unless its just something I feel like doing at the time....

Can't imagine what they say about me then LOL

I've given up on achievements after I hit 100k. They began to bore me. The last year or so I've really stopped and enjoyed gaming so much more.

I hear that a lot too.

                              You can't win with achievments/trophies.

If you have a lot you have "no life."

Only thing is I am fine with having "no life" as long as I am having fun while doing it.

                                What constitutes "a life"?

                                Seriously people.
