I don't mind Kinect, myself. It was MS' DRM policies and general pompous attitude that turned me off. Them dropping DRM has got my attention.

Agreed, Green. As I stated before in another thread, Microsoft was really giving off an eliteist vibe and seemed hell bent on alienating a large base of consumers. I'm glad the gamers were vocal and that Microsoft actually listened to the feedback it was receiving.

Just out if curiosity, what are people's problem with kinect being included? I don't play Kinect myself, but it's inclusion isn't an issue for me at all.

I imagine the people that don't like it have a problem with it because you're forced to buy it, so it drives the price of the system up(that is why Xbox One is $100 more), and you're forced to plug it in as the system will not turn on without it.

I suppose you can always go into the settings and mute the mic and turn the camera off, but it still has to be connected to the system.

LOL I already said, I still won't go MS if they make the change and you can find that post several weeks back if you choose. My reason is I figured they would have to make a change due to how bad they will get beat and that is just them crawfishing back on a decision to screw the consumers and now it coming back to bite them in the ***.

Me personally I won't support a company that took that route only to get caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Personally nothing MS can do can win me back. If I could change my OS I would do that also.

They not making these changes for the better of you guys TRUST ME. They are not trying to do the best thing for YOU. They are only looking out for themselves and the almighty dollar.

That might sound bad and you might read that as me just coming off as **** MS. You are darn right, they attempted a under hand approach and I'm glad to see it come back to bite them. You don't screw over the loyal fans and then just pull a whooppppppsieee!!

If there's one thing about Americans, we don't like to be FORCED into something. If Microsoft had a vision for their nex gen console, they could've found ways to implement it w/out interfering with our freedom. It's as if they were forcing us to stay at home (no playing games on a friend's console) and stay playing online at all times (24 hr check).


Now maybe I'm reading too much into this, but we may look back at this misstep as the "moment" that sunk Microsoft in the video game industry. There's plenty of examples in the last 30 yrs of a company making mistakes (3do, Atari). This MIGHT be their mistake. Only time will tell, and like I said I'm probably reading too much into it.

I agree consumers were upset back when all this info came out in May at their reveal event. Just last week they seem to not care about the opinion of the consumers. How do you go from "if you don't have a good connection get an xbox 360" to now we care about consumers. I feel they saw the preorder sale projections and that significantly helped them change their mind. I could be wrong though...

Nothing was gonna change their minds unless their wallet would be affected. Looks like the preorder blowout was the slap in the face they needed to make the change.

The commentary made against DRM in this whole thing is bigger than the family 10 person sharing. We could always share games. I mean thats a minor "loss" in all this imo.

Now MS has to pump the news of this change big time to put a dent in the negative PR they took for the past 3 months.

Credit to MS for reversing things and admitting they were, in essence, wrong. Don't think they did this for you guys though, they didn't listen to the demand. They listened to the money.. Of course.

MS had predicted the amount of pre-orders before E3 and most likely came nowhere near that, they had to change something, and it was the most obvious flaw.

The striking low amounts of pre-orders were caused by the consumer, yes. But they could've easily said "No, we're sticking to ours guns". After all, they X1 was designed around DRM.. Right? They did this to save their *** being handed to them over the next several years.

I don't think it has anything to do with the price at all.

I'm not a man of great financial means by any measure, but I would have no issue paying $500 for the Kinect and XBone (bundled of course) if the Kinect were something I didn't have to have connected.

Like I've said. It does nothing but detract from the system/games for me.

It's my understanding that with storing games in the cloud, this would've been possible without even having the disk and just logging into your profile.

I don't know how to feel about today. I was going to get an X1 up until they announced the price of the PS4. At that point, being on the Internet starting to turn me more and more against it with everyone complaining all the time. Then I really looked at it, and X1 was going to be my console for this gen. I have every intention of going all digital next gen, so used games are irrelevant to me and I don't care about 24 hour check ins if it means that I can access my entire game library on any Xbox as long as I sign in, or can give 9 friends access to my library. Going back on all of the good stuff about the console kind of ruined it for me. Now it's a more expensive PS4. I'm just going to finish building my PC and probably wait until late 2014 unless something drastic happens or I see a game I really want to play. I don't see any reason to get either of these consoles at launch.

I may have wrote that differently to how I should..

My point was, it wasn't the voice of the consumer they listened too, although a loud voice it was, but the lack of sound of pennies dropping from the consumer.

If MS had plans for the future that would make DRM make them look like a genius, they wouldn't have reversed this out of simply "Listening to us". They had to take action as the consumers we're not meeting the predicted pre-orders MS had set themselves.

Point is, we're the consumers loud and angry? Yes, but the 'voice' was not what changed their stance on DRM. YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, the media.. All of those were against DRM, but if MS truly thought DRM would have a great and positive impact down the line.. They wouldn't have done what has taken place today.

It's about money. Not the voice.

Can someone help me out with some advice? I'm looking into pre-ordering the One, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I have $200 worth of gift cards at Gamestop, but it's so appealing to go with Amazon and not have to worry about the tax. Plus, I don't have to pay for shipping with them, and Amazon is always solid.

Anyone been in a similar situation? If anyone here has gone with Gamestop, is it smarter to order from a local store, or from their online store? Thanks!

So Microsoft has changed their policies, no used games restrictions, internet requirements, etc. Glad I already pre-ordered mine! The move should squarely put MS on the top of the console war IMO.

If you can still see discs being in your life in 40 years then were living in different worlds my friend. A physical disc is a dying breed. It dodged a bullet here today but it's time will come.

I don't think people ever had the issue with not being able to trade in digital games. You've never been able to do that. They had an issue that Microsoft was treating physical media like it was digital and not allowing you to trade in/lend it. It was asinine at the start because presumably the only reason for the DRM was so you could install your disk based games and then play them without the disk. If people really cared that much about playing with no disk in, then they could have just bought the digital version in the first place. There should have never been DRM for the disk based games.

At least now the policies made sense. I'm pretty sure Microsoft and Sony are both aware that within a decade the majority of all sales will be digital and physical disks will die off like they have on the PC. Sony just took the better way to deal with it at first because Microsoft's 180 today.

Of courrse it's about the money. They are a company. Everyone hated DRM by MS and the stink was big enough to make them go back on their vision for the future. And this nonsense that MS is out to screw people is ridiculous. They said in their written policy that things are subject to change (according to what consumers respond with).

The ones that lose are those that wanted to take advantage of what Xbox One is all about, being a console that delivers high levels of entertainment very efficiently. What they are trying to do is the future. Internet technology is not going to sit stagnant. It is growing and will soon be at a place where it is as prevelant as electricity or plumbing.

It doesn't put them on top of the console war. In this gen, Sony and MS are tied behind the ubiquitous N.

MS did the damage already. The only thing this did is maybe change peoples mind who were on the fence about both.

Again, everyone I talked to in my guild is even more disgusted at MS because of this flopping.

Sony will still sell more units they just won't greatly outpace them like they have been.
