MS better be explaining clearly the benefits for having the Kinect connected if they want it to be an integral part of the experience.

Same way they need to explain the importance of being connected to the Internet & the benefits it offers.

Now announce a price drop so the Interwebs can explode

This is probably a decision that will position then for just that. I'm thinking why else would they decided to make such a change? Maybe because people were crying foul with privacy concerns but I see it more as a means to offer a One without kinect.

It's interesting though. Every decision they have switched on seems to be something they tried to introduce but it was just a bit too early for consumers.

This & the way it was presented to consumers. Consumers were being "told" Always Online & Kinect are Mandatory. Instead MS should have explained in detail as my last post suggested the benefits of Always Online & Kinect connected to the XB-1 experience.

Things like Automatic updates, Day-1 digital downloads, access to the Cloud, voice recognition operation and anything else being "connected" offers.

I agree 100%. I don't know why but MS did a terrible job at showing exactly what their system was going to do. So what you have in return is people saying that MS is going to spy on people with Kinect and all these other outrageous internet claims. I don't think they just let it go on but they didn't initiate a good vibe about what they were trying to do with the One.

I am going to enjoy the benefits of what thy are trying to do with Kinect. I like the idea of the system being in a low power state and me telling it to turn on. I am interested in how they plan on creating an entertainment environment where I can easily navigate through my choices etc..

I understand some have hesitation with what they are trying to do, but I am rather surprised by the offense many have taken to MS trying to incorporate what really is inevitable, digital entertainment being the source majority.

I thought I understood pretty clearly what they were trying to do, the focus was on all of the negative and purpose largely ignored though.

                  Welp.
Kinect is still very important to the experience. Its just they are giving people options. There was a huge outcry about it having to be connected at all times so they decide to change that. Doesn't mean they won't push gamers to use the device.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

                    Re: Xbox One

This is an important and nice feature for Gold Members with what they are calling Home Gold...

"Everyone in your home can share digital games with each other. Your Xbox One can become your virtual game library filled with digital games that different people in the home bought. Anyone can pick any digital game on your Xbox One, sign in with their own gamertag and play – even if the owner is not signed in. Like physical media, you can also play many digitally downloaded games without being online, although experiences will be best when connected to the internet and Xbox Live."

"If you’re an Xbox Live Gold member, an unlimited number of people can enjoy many benefits of Xbox Live Gold while they are using your Home Xbox One console. Friends and family will simply create their own account and gamertag and be able to enjoy Xbox Live online multiplayer gaming and access to entertainment apps."

"If you are an Xbox Live Gold member today, you are already set for Xbox One. Your Xbox Live Gold membership for Xbox 360 will seamlessly become an Xbox Live Gold account on your Xbox One and you will be able to enjoy Xbox Live Gold features on either console. You can even be logged in to Xbox 360 and Xbox One at the same time. Home Gold benefits are exclusively for Xbox One."

"You don’t have to share your gamertag for multiplayer gaming with others in your home, or see recommendations for your kid’s cartoons next to the recommended first-person shooter for you. It also means that you can introduce new games and enjoy multiplayer with friends while they are at your house. Last but not least, it also means that when you buy one Xbox Live Gold membership, multiple people can enjoy the best benefits of Xbox Live Gold on your Xbox One at no additional charge."

This. Plus the focus and attacks were a bit too zealous (and I've read this coming from a few articles quoting higher ups at gaming companies). Essentially people just grasped onto the negative and didn't let go.

And as we're seeing right now, with good reason. We were told all of these things were mandatory and couldn't be turned off or changed blah blah blah and low and behold, everything that was unable to be changed has suddenly changed.

I was watching the controller reveal video and the designer talked about how it has within it IR LEDs that work with the Kinect sensor so when you hand the controller to another user the Kinect notices that and instantly switches profiles.
