I see Microsoft coming in with another, "Project ..." They have the base of consumers for the 360 and can start risking talking about something new. But, I think they'll add mystery to it because they can. Especially if Sony has nothing to offer, which by the way isn't because they are all about a 10 year cycle. The PS2 didn't have a predecessor so soon because it dominated the market. The PS3 just doesn't have the momentum to go strong for 10 years. Especially if Nintendo and MS have something new coming along.

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Honestly I would need these new systems to do something mind blowing that's never been done rather than enhancing something that's been there. I have no idea what that is but I would want something more than just better graphics.
Little things that I always wanted in sports games are dynamic announcers. If I make a create a player they should be able to pronounce my name and talk about games that I played in the past if they were bad or good. Be able to talk about a game I did last year in the playoffs or something.
Also have multiples endings to a game. And I mean multiple like 100's of outcomes depending on choice.
I always wanted GTA to be not just one city but different cities at the same time with different people doing different missions all at real time.
Whatever it is, its gotta blow todays games out of the water.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Hmmmm...not for the next NBA Live, but you guys probably remember that EA video showing the difference between the PS2 and PS3 versions...around 2006... Imagine if they do the same next year...
It's hard for me to imagine the current gen shown like the PS2 was shown - and then see the new generation. Back then I was amazed (even if I'm not an EA fan
). I hope that when there is a new generation, the difference will be like what that video shown and beyond.*
*SpoilerI know the gameplay sucked, but that wasn't because of the new gen technology...just in case someone would immediately have the urge to post about "graphics aren't everything". I agree, but I didn't mean to make this the discussion. My Specs:
ZX Spectrum
CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
GPU: Monochrome display
RAM: 48 KB
OS: Sinclair BASICComment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Asking for no patches is extremely unrealistic. There isn't a single form of software that doesn't require fixes post-release. They were only "more reliant" on patches this generation because they had the capability to deliver them, before this round of consoles the systems were barely in place for patches but PC games had them for years before this generation.I am so sick of online multi-player and co-op modes. Forget that. fix the single player mode FIRST. I bought so many games this generation that I was able to beat in 8 hours or less that it wasn't even funny.
And I'm also tired of developers being overly dependent on patches. This whole generation you had to wait for a patch or 2 just for the game to play CORRECTLY. And with sports games, it was the worse. Every sports game every year had no less then 4 patches.
Makes no sense how overly dependent they were on patches this generation. I felt sorry for those who didn't have Xbox Live or PSN, because they were stuck with the broken sports games this whole generation.
So for the next generation I want games to last and not be any shorter then 25 hours of game play. When I buy a sports game, I expect everything to WORK out of the box.
Nobody should be forced to spend the first month a sports game come out working on sliders or roster edits just to get the game to play correctly.
Game play should be priority number one. Online and co-op should be an after thought bonus, not a priority.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Looks like some concrete evidence that we may see a next gen console 2013. I'm OK with 2013, as I'll wait a little while until probably mid 2014 to pick one up.

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Gamsutra thinks Sony may need to cut their price for E3, and/or introduce a new model to spur sales after eeking out a relatively small gain this year. Could be why they don't show anything new, try and get one last good push from the PS3.Last edited by mestevo; 01-19-2012, 05:34 PM.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
I've been looking at some old "next-generation" target videos and they look really bad compared to what we have now so it's exciting to think about how far the graphics could look like down the line. The stuff in that video is beyond what current consoles can do in real time so I really want to see what comes out in the next few years.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
We already have beautiful looking games on the 360/PS3. Heck, I think Splinter Cell Chaos Theory looked amazing, and that was the original Xbox.
That Unreal video isn't gameplay footage. That's not to say games won't look like that. Gears is another beautiful looking series. I have no doubt the next gen will push some great graphics. But there has to be some deeper levels now (for me). Games are going to have to draw me in like a good book with well written scripts, quality actors and zero repetition.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Both PS4 and XBOX3 to be shown at E3
Just having the horsepower to be able to run games with more memory for textures and at full 1080p would result in significantly better visuals. The overhead to have even more systems in the game to interact like what is seen in that video will give the developers a lot more room for creativity and create nicer even more immersive environments.
In a game like Madden it's the difference between having 22 fully rendered players and 100 (fully rendered and animated sidelines). Between having a statically decaying field and one that actually has footprints and puddles that persist rather than disappearing after 8-10 steps. Between having a layer on the screen of a confetti pattern and having actual objects blown from cannons and each individually falling naturally and gathering on the ground.
In a game like NBA2k it's the difference between having the first 5 rows as quasi-3d shaped members of the crowd to being able to animate an entire stadium in 3d, eliminating the awful 'here's a shot of the 2d crowd' they go to a dozen+ times per game.
Not to mention the systems that could be implemented without as much risk of taking away from other parts of the game or quickly tapping out the resources available in the console, better AI, physics, things like perspiration, lighting, etc.Comment
