    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Thanks for that info. That site is one I am counting on for some truth in the next coming months. This part caught my eye the most

We can confirm that the reports are correct. Rise of the Tomb Raider has three different modes in the PS4 Pro version only: a 4K30 presentation with HDR support that strikes an impressive balance between visual features and resolution, a 1080p30 mode that ramps up quality settings to the max and an unlocked frame-rate mode for 1080p that sees performance vary between 40-60fps (we assume that this will be down to CPU bottlenecks), rather like Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on the standard PlayStation 4.

At the PlayStation Meeting, Crystal Dynamics were only showing the 4K mode. We've played a fair amount of this title recently, on both the Titan X Pascal and dual GTX 1080 SLI. It is, quite frankly, one of the finest 4K gaming experiences available. PS4 Pro is compromised a touch - it looks a little softer, and quality presets are pared back - but the core of the experience, the 'upgrade factor' over 1080p if you like, is there. This was by far and away the best third party 4K title we saw at the PlayStation Meeting
That is how I hope a lot of games approach the Pro, those three options

Before and after the announcement of PS4 Pro

It's good to hear what digital Foundary is saying about the pro and I can imagine how good MLB the show will look, but C-mon sony what were you thinking not including UHD player smh..

        LOL at the gif.

I wonder if MS knew exactly what Sony was up to because it seems like they just had perfect timing with their Xbox S release and Scorpio announcement.

That DF article is a great read though. I am looking forward to an in-depth reveal of the Pro specs and explanation of the technology that DF said is on the way from Cerny.

The UHD omission seems to be a pretty big fail, but the 400 buck pricetag is still pretty nice IMO

So a few questions I have. What does the price of the Pro say about Scorpio and its price? With Scorpio being more powerful and having a 4k bluray drive but also being out a year later how much is it going to cost? I am thinking $500 and maybe around the time it comes out Pro will be cut to 350 and slim to 250?

I have no idea what the Scorpio will launch at but considering the power advantage I imagine it will be quite the game changer if they can sell it for 500

Our vanilla PS4s will be HDR compatible so honestly, PS4 Pro won't make sense. It's kinda like a solution searching for a problem to solve.

I wonder if the vanillas will do HDR for movies only or gaming as well.

Kinda surprised with the approach they're taking, an unlocked varying framerate is worse than a locked 30 IMO

It will only be for gaming, the only movies that have HDR are in 4K.

Have they confirmed if we can switch out the hard drive? Kinda want to keep my 2 TB HDD if I get the pro.

Some 1080p stuff on Netflix has HDR too like Marco Polo.

The launch is the regular PS4. The Slim is the same, just smaller, less power, quieter. Won't do anything different.

The Pro is 4K HDR streaming movies, upscaling 4K games, better framerates than the launch/slim.
