Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

I have no idea why Nintendo is scared of having an actual online network. Hyrule warriors would have been even more amazing coop too.

I really wish they'd improve online but the fact is Nintendo is marketed to kids more than Sony and Microsoft so they take the safe approach, unfortunately.

After the Nintendo 64 I did not think it was possible that Metroid would not get a title out for the Wii U but here we are as many Metroid other M was not what we were all looking for however I did find elements that I liked about the game. I basically purchased a Wii U for pikmin 3 and I did that by getting the hardware and game used. I do not really know what I will do about the Nintendo switch. I would consider a day one purchase only if the price point is around $200-$249 if it is more than that I will have to wait and see if a Metroid title is released. What I think is coming and purely speculation is a successor to Super Metroid a true side scrolling adventure of epic proportions. We are in a holding pattern Houston

So many people like Metroid prime but I have never cared for it. If Retro studios is making that I am going to be disappointed lol. I am hoping they are either making a 3d DK game a new IP or another 2d DK game. When it comes to the Wii u I got it at first thinking about Zelda lol but there are at least a few good reasons to have one. DK tropical freeze is worth a wii u on its own and so was Rayman legends but it ended up being on other system later.

Just play Axiom Verge. Nintendo has shown little desire to give fans of Metroid what they want. It's also historically been very unpopular in Japan, and as far as long-running franchises, it's right next to Star Fox as one of their weaker selling properties.

Looks like no external storage for Switch dock

Hope that changes. It's purely a branding/strategy decision, at least that's how they're spinning it. They don't want the system to seem less portable or not able to be picked up and carried off at a moment's notice.

I guess it would depend on how they market it. If it's a portable that can be used at home, external storage wouldn't make sense. If it's a home system that can be portable, then it might. It's all symantics, but those differences are still important when considering marketing and demographics.

I am late to the discussion but I am all over this.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Nintendo said after the video release that it is 'first and foremost' and home gaming system.

I'm wondering if the unit itself doesn't accept external storage as an anti-piracy measure.

Yea that would definitely make sense. Get people to spend the $10 on a game like Pokémon Yellow instead of downloading the rom from the internet and putting it on a USB to play it.

Anyone think Nintendo implements their own achievement/trophies system with the Switch?

I think they'd be ridiculous not to personally. I'm no achievement/trophy hunter but I know people who will never leave their ecosystem because their gamerscore is too high or they don't want to give up all of their plats, if Nintendo doesn't get in on this they're missing out IMO.

Yeah, Nintendo said this but the entire 3 minute commercial had everyone playing Switch outside, in a car, in the park, on a rooftop, etc. outside of the beginning so I'll disagree with what Nintendo said as I see it as a handheld/portable console that can also be played on your HDTV. Think PS Vita if it had an HDMI out port.
