1080i is an interlaced signal at a resolution of 1920x1080 (divide by two since the picture is done in two passes). The 1080p is the progressive version of that resolution (one pass). While 1080p sounds great, no signals are currently output at that level, and most HDMI cables can't output 1080p yet. The PS3 is advertising 1080p resolution, so that's an option. The only reason to get 1080p is to "future proof" and to run your 1080i broadcasts in progressive scan. Some have stated that you can't even tell the difference further then 10 feet away. Who knows...

I think that most TV's have a few extra pixels (1280x736). It shouldn't be a deal breaker.

As for Amazon, the only problem with them is the added wait time, since they use a bona fide furniture delivery service and don't take stock from retailers. If the price is right and you don't mind the wait (order now for the big bowl games and the Super Bowl), go for it!

Wow, thanks for the explanation and the tip on Amazon.com. To save that much money, I think I can afford to wait a bit.

So now, I'm still considering these four:

      -Samsung LN-R328W
      (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do)

      -Sony Bravia KLV-S32A10

      -Panny TC-32LX50

      -Sharp Aqous LC-32DA5U
      (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sharp...oductDetail.do)

But now, I'm also thinking that maybe I should spend a bit more, and leave no chance of feeling badly about my purchase a couple years down the road. Anyone think I'd be much better off going for either of these?

      -Panasonic TH-42PX50U Plasma

      -Panasonic TH-37PX50U Plasma

I don't know about other people, but this has been the hardest electronics purchase of my life.

Re: HDTV Questions and Answer Thread

I have a quick question for anyone who knows. I have been looking at some of the holiday deals on TV's, and a couple have caught my eye (ie. their affordability).

Is it worth it to get a HDTV Monitor rather than an integrated HDTV? I will be using this television for gaming and movies, and therefore I am not too interested in receiving HD-quality programming over the air. Does the fact that it is not an integrated HDTV and instead is just an HDTV monitor take away from my gaming/movie experience or is the integrated aspect important only if I wanted to receive an outside HD signal without buying a box?

I appreciate anyone who can help me out with this.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

Integrated is only important if you don't want to use up a component/HDMI input from a cable box. I'm currently using a box and if it wasn't for the DVR, I would drop it in a second in order to free up the input.

The better question is why not watch TV in HD? You don't know what you are missing on football weekends.

I will most likely be getting this tv, it will be on sale at both circuitcity and compusa for about $500, from what I have read, it is a good tv at a great price.

Can anyone tell me if this is a really good deal, given the TVs I was considering (quoted above):

Also, it says this TV has 768p resolution - what the heck is that?

It does matter. HDTV Ready = you have everything you need to watch DVDs & TV and play video games in HiDef. HDTV Monitor = you can play video games in HiDef and watch DVDs in HiDef, but you'll need a HD reciever for channels. HDTV capable, I'm not entirely sure, but I'd assume you would to pay for more than just a HD reciever to get HiDef.

They haven't started making HD DVD players, so no you don't need one.

How is this as far as <$600 HD-Ready sets go? I know the options for that little money for an HD-Ready set is pretty small, but this is the biggest brand name I have seen thus far in that price and size range.

For DVDs, he needs a DVD Player with progressive scan.

And the cables for the 360 are included with the Premium package.
