The preview looked more like a season preview than just a preview for next week. There were some scenes in last week's preview that we didn't see this week.

Yep...the intro to the preview said something about season 6 previews...it wasn't just for next week. Anyone notice none of the clips had Tony? They really want to make you wonder.

Missed that, but my understanding was that the Tim Daly appearance is next week.

                Re: Sopranos Season 6

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how a Sopranos "fan"(someone beyond the casual watcher), can slag off the dream sequence shows.

To me, it's episodes like these that make the series the greatest show in the history of television. I loved last nights episode, and the son-called "dream" episodes are always meaningful, never gratituous or tacked-on(if you understand them). This is what the series does best: challenging the viewer, allusions, symbolism, depth, forcing the audience to think about relationships and character development. When people call these shows "boring", I wonder if they've been watching the same show I have for the past 7 or so years.

These aren't "set-up" shows, they're the meat of the series. If all the Sopranos had to offer was a "Guess-who's-gonna-be-wacked-next" weekly "action!" game, I would have tuned out years ago and the series would have the staying power of Scarface(which is to say it WOULDN'T hold up).

If viewers want easy-to-chew bite size pieces of narrative, I don't get why they're watching the Sopranos in the first place. MAybe something bland and derivative like "The Boondock Saints" will serve you better.

I'm not speaking toward anyone in particular, but I honestly don't get why someone would like the Sopranos but dislike episodes like this. It would be like someone liking the Ramones for their technical prowess on guitar or liking Bob Dylan because of his vocal range. It doesn't make sense.

Better question: For those who hated this episode, what draws you to the Sopranos, and how would you characterize the series narrative arc? What specifically do you dislike about the dream sequences other than their pacing?

I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Oversimplification is the escape of men who want to avoid the duty demanded by true understanding.

This dream sequence was not that well done. Throw in a Tony Soprano dream, any dream, and the superlatives have to automatically roll off the tongue. I think what is brillant is Chase's ability to capture the surrealness of a dream, however drawn out and tedious it may be. The first 14 plodding minutes of this show was devoted to Tony in Dreamland, minus the accent, realizing he had someone else's wallet. So this successful, legit businessman he had become in the dream was what he really wanted in his own life, YADA, YADA, YADA. I think the narrative arc of this season will be the power struggle within, and the attempted ousting of Tony. I've already mentioned what draws me to this show (I like some of the dreams, but not for half the show), but it's mostly POWER, VIOLENCE, GREAT CHARACTERS, and FAMILY. The best dream sequence was when Tony ate the bad seafood and his suspicions about Pu$$Y were realized in the dream when PU$$Y was talking to him as a fish (sleeping with the fishes).

The hospital stuff, AJ's tirade about the effin' mummy, the Vito quotes ("he Marvin Gayed his nephew" and the line about Gene), the setup of a Silvio-lead crew, a cameo of "Smoke On The Water" (again), etc. made this episode great.

The dream sequence wasn't on par with what they've put out in the past, and to make matters worse, David Chase wrote last night's episode himself.

So..despite a misstep in the form of the dream (that I'll probably appreciate more on a second viewing), it was a great episode.

Exactly, the reason this show has not gotten old for me is episodes like this. Carmella's scene at Tony's bedside was some of the best acting I have ever seen, so real and engaging, it got my eyes watering. I did not mind the dream sequence and think that it will make more sense the next episode.

You say episodes like this and then you bring up another great Edie Falco scene, but not specifically the great dream sequence(you didn't MIND it). I'm getting a kick out of some you implying that if we (mostly I) did not like the dream, then we were looking for the whacking or other forms of violence. Hey, I got a kick out of Bobby wearing the train conductor's hat last week.

im feeling both sides on this, the last episode sucked/ it was great argument. i think the episode was a good episode, on par with the greatness of the show, the acting, directing, storyline, premise, etc. i think alot off ppl are saying last episode sucked or the dream sequence was too long etc, cause in reality, everyone tuned into the show expecting tony to wake up and have everything go back to normal, and it didnt happen, then by the end of the episode, all anyone was looking for was a glimpse as to what was to come of the situation, and they didnt get it, all they got was another 10 minutes of the dream to end the episode, takeing us no further with no more storyline advances than episode 1 left us with. i dont think chase gave everyone what the expected and there were no surprises, so all the litle details to the dream were missed by those of us going, yada yada dream whatever, wake tony up already and let him deal with junior......which is what we all wanted to see. so in time i think the whole season will mold together and everyone will be counting seconds to the last 8 episodes next year.

Just because you didn't catch half of the metaphoric connections throughout the DREAMLAND(OMG!), doesn't mean that the show is going downhill. Afterall, if you only seen The Sopranos these past two weeks, it definetely is, by your and my standards.

Basically, it was the first, and I hope the last "dream" episode of this season. Even though I find them extremely boring, I find them also to be filled with "nuggets" or to be a 'deep meaning' episode which makes you appreciate Chase.

As per next week I'm thinking that Tony should come out of his comma or at least begin to, and we should start to see some down-the-line "disagreements" within the "family".

Though I don't know if I'm overanalyzing into Chris' meet with the cops, but I honestly think by showing Chris speaking with the FBI, and hinting that he's "anti-terrorist", perhaps foreshadows him snitching to them as a way to getting out of the mob family and out of NJ when things become hot, or as supposedly the anticipated "World War 3" mob was between Phil(NY) and Tony(NJ).
The next scene, too, was too coincidental: when Chris' is unpleased to find the middle-eastern fellas overstaying their welcome at the Bada Bing. My reason for this thinking is that Chris is a coward, but tries to sell him off as a capo. At the wake, his comments in regards to 'Gene being a coward for taking "the easy way out", yet Chris is all about the "easy way outs".
