Re: Sopranos Season 6
The preview looked more like a season preview than just a preview for next week. There were some scenes in last week's preview that we didn't see this week.Comment

Re: Sopranos Season 6
I'm sorry, but I don't understand how a Sopranos "fan"(someone beyond the casual watcher), can slag off the dream sequence shows.
To me, it's episodes like these that make the series the greatest show in the history of television. I loved last nights episode, and the son-called "dream" episodes are always meaningful, never gratituous or tacked-on(if you understand them). This is what the series does best: challenging the viewer, allusions, symbolism, depth, forcing the audience to think about relationships and character development. When people call these shows "boring", I wonder if they've been watching the same show I have for the past 7 or so years.
These aren't "set-up" shows, they're the meat of the series. If all the Sopranos had to offer was a "Guess-who's-gonna-be-wacked-next" weekly "action!" game, I would have tuned out years ago and the series would have the staying power of Scarface(which is to say it WOULDN'T hold up).
If viewers want easy-to-chew bite size pieces of narrative, I don't get why they're watching the Sopranos in the first place. MAybe something bland and derivative like "The Boondock Saints" will serve you better.
I'm not speaking toward anyone in particular, but I honestly don't get why someone would like the Sopranos but dislike episodes like this. It would be like someone liking the Ramones for their technical prowess on guitar or liking Bob Dylan because of his vocal range. It doesn't make sense.
Better question: For those who hated this episode, what draws you to the Sopranos, and how would you characterize the series narrative arc? What specifically do you dislike about the dream sequences other than their pacing?Last edited by Silverstring; 03-20-2006, 04:01 PM.I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. The dream sequence wasn't on par with what they've put out in the past, and to make matters worse, David Chase wrote last night's episode himself.
So..despite a misstep in the form of the dream (that I'll probably appreciate more on a second viewing), it was a great episode.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

Originally posted by stiffarmleftExactly, the reason this show has not gotten old for me is episodes like this. Carmella's scene at Tony's bedside was some of the best acting I have ever seen, so real and engaging, it got my eyes watering. I did not mind the dream sequence and think that it will make more sense the next episode.Comment

Basically, it was the first, and I hope the last "dream" episode of this season. Even though I find them extremely boring, I find them also to be filled with "nuggets" or to be a 'deep meaning' episode which makes you appreciate Chase.
As per next week I'm thinking that Tony should come out of his comma or at least begin to, and we should start to see some down-the-line "disagreements" within the "family".
Though I don't know if I'm overanalyzing into Chris' meet with the cops, but I honestly think by showing Chris speaking with the FBI, and hinting that he's "anti-terrorist", perhaps foreshadows him snitching to them as a way to getting out of the mob family and out of NJ when things become hot, or as supposedly the anticipated "World War 3" mob was between Phil(NY) and Tony(NJ).
The next scene, too, was too coincidental: when Chris' is unpleased to find the middle-eastern fellas overstaying their welcome at the Bada Bing. My reason for this thinking is that Chris is a coward, but tries to sell him off as a capo. At the wake, his comments in regards to 'Gene being a coward for taking "the easy way out", yet Chris is all about the "easy way outs".Last edited by AI_Franchise; 03-21-2006, 12:17 AM.Comment
