What action? The opening scene was tremendous. I've never seen such ingenuity, best chase (foot pursuit) I've ever seen, bar none. I was wondering how many takes they had to do to get all that right (and how many stunt men were killed, lol). There was the tanker thing and then nothing until the very end, nada.

My wife usually only falls asleep when I'm trying to get affectionate with her, so explain her falling asleep?
Like your wife falling asleep is the most reliable indicator of a movie's quality. It's subjective, and you and your wife might not like the movie, but that's hardly everyone's opinion. Who knows? You might like it a lot better if you ever see it again (or not).

I've fallen asleep in movies that I love. Sometimes, I'm just not into that movie at that particular time. Movies are not an objective piece of entertainment as the viewer always brings along some baggage, mostly their temperament, expectations, etc.

Though the Bond movies that I fell asleep at after Goldeneye really deserved it (IMHO) since they were so ridiculous and unbelievable. For me, the true indicator of quality entertainment comes from deciding whether I'm looking forward to adding the movie to my own personal collection. I could only say that about Goldeneye, and now this movie. Everything in between, I just couldn't say that, and I really did prefer this movie to even Goldeneye.

And Superstar's right, there was quite a bit of action strewn throughout the movie. However, it's not the action that makes the movie great, it's the stuff in between, primarily scenes like the poker tournament, the way Bond interacts with M, etc. I loved the action throughout the movie though, and you're right about the chase scene, that was a lot of fun. Only thing is, I never stopped having fun watching this movie.

If that's the case then I can see why action oriented folks might not like it as OHMSS was by far the most intellectually stimulating and most fleshed out Bond film ever. If this film lives up to that then it's going to easily jump up to my top 5 Bond films of all time.

I'm not going to spoil this one for you, but it has the feel of OHMSS all over again. I turned to the friend I went with (who's also a huge Bond fan) and said this feels a lot like OHMSS. He agreed. I'd rank my top 3 Bond movies like this right now

      1. You Only Live Twice
      2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
      3. Casino Royale

I absolutely loved the beginning of Casino Royale and you'll see why when you see it SPTO. It's a return to basics Bond movie and I loved it.

There were like 4 action scenes after that...lol. The tanker scene, the short fight scene in the museum, the stairs fight, the final scene. I really dont know what you were looking for.

Geez, louise what's with the shaking of the head emoticon. The part about my wife and affection was a JOKE! I thought the movie dragged, you guys didn't.

Awesome movie. Daniel Craig was terrific. I thought there was a nice balance of action and romantic drama so that the movie was a true action movie, but it wasn't a true drama either. A lot of great action sequences and lines. I can't wait for the next one!

Agreed 100%. Never before have they relied so much on character development and abandoned the ever recognizable formula like they did in this one. I was actually reminded of From Russia with Love, which doesn't have the larger than life bad guy who's trying to take over the world. An entire Bond film that has Daniel Craig play Bond (as we know him) only for the last 15 seconds of the movie... how good of a movie did it have to be for them to get away with that risk? Not to mention that only until the end credits do you get the theme song to complete the metamorphisis...brilliant!!

Was it your traditional Bond film... ABSOLUTELY NOT. But they reinvented the series and did it in modern times without going "big" like Die Another Day did to its detriment. I'm amazed by this movie and couldn't be more excited to see Craig play Bond with his Connery snarl and a more physical, believable side than any other Bond before. My dad and I are Bond enthusiasts, we've watched every one together, and never before have we walked away so intrigued at the direction of 007. And to think we both wanted Clive...

Caught a midnight show yesterday. Thought the movie was really good, although there were some people in the theater that were turned off by the way the last part of it played out. I think most were riveted up to and during that "rough" scene after the poker game - then lost some people when it was less about action (happens frequently at late shows though). I understand what they were doing in terms of character development though.

Daniel Craig was fantastic. I've always liked Pierce Brosnan, but never really felt he was Bond - he's just really personable and fits into what I had come to expect of the James Bond character. Craig was pretty much mesmerizing from beginning to end. Action scenes were great; loved the poker game; thought the primary characters were well written
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

I thought Brosnan was good as Bond, it's just that the movies he was in after Goldeneye were subpar at best. I hope that's not true as well for Craig after Casino Royale.

I think on the contrary that they've laid the groundwork for a fantastic 22nd Bond, especially hearing that the story will be linked to some information provided later in the movie about Vesper. Looks like Craig will have to deal with her Algerian boyfriend who could be heading up the terrorist syndicate that represents the modern day SPECTER.

Anyone going to see this movie again? I'm seriously considering it, and I'm not sure I've ever done that.

No no no... slow down!! SPECTRE is not in the movie. By "represents", I meant that the terrorist organization referenced in Casino Royale and in Bond 22 rumors is drawing comparisons to what the old Connery films did with SPECTRE. For the pain and suffering I may have caused, I apologize.

This will show my age a bit, but I could never get Remington Steele out of my head when seeing a Brosnan Bond flick. As I said earlier in the thread, I'd love to see a 2-3 film arc with the same organization or villain. That's the beauty of the early Bonds, it wasn't so formulaic, Bond finds out who villain is, hunts him, and kills him, rinse and repeat.

This was a great Bond movie. A good movie but a great Bond movie. Did anyone else notice Richard Branson getting frisked in the Miami airport? I thought that was a weird cameo. And the product placement has gotten a little rediculous! A Ford??? Bond does not drive a Ford, im sorry but that was laughout loud funny.
