I love Batman, Detective Comics, and Action Comics. I also like Static, JLA, and Deathstroke. I want to get into some of these less popular comics, but it's tough for me to get into books where I don't know anyone. I was really hyped about Legion of Superheroes, but found it to be bad and a poor introduction for someone completely new to the Legionnaires.

Overall I'm really happy to be following comics again!

          A couple questions:

Where is the best place to start for Grant Morrison? Specifically his Batman stuff?

Where is the best place to start with Punisher? I've always thought about picking up Garth Ennis' stuff, but have never actually done it yet.

What are some good "other" comics? Comics kind of along the lines of Scott Pilgrim or Kick-*** or Watchmen.

A list someone made on Amazon of Grant Morrison's run in chronological order via GN's
            http://www.amazon.com/Grant-Morrison.../R5KPZVDQOS8L1

I'm not sure on Ennis' punisher run as i've only read Preacher (great read) and his ongoing The Boys comic

as for other good stuff check out Transmetropolitan, Y The Last Man, and 100 Bullets. All three are complete so you should be able to find collections and graphic novels of each one.

if you want some stuff thats ongoing, can't go wrong with DMZ, which should be ending soon and I've heard good things about Scalped which i'm planning on starting soon. Of course there's the Walking Dead too.

              - The Morrison question has been answered though I warn you on some of his Batman stuff, you're going to need to look things up. He REALLY crams a lot of inside knowledge and continuity in there. His Batman & Robin run was excellent too.

              - Ennis' Punisher run is considered by far the best treatment of the character ever. A new Ongoing of Punisher in the regular 616 Marvel universe just started (2 or 3 issues in) which i've been reading and it's a bit "meh" to me right now though Greg Rucka is writing it and he's an excellent comic book writer.

              - I second the recommendation of Scalped which though I haven't read i've heard is VERY good. I've heard though that the first TPB is a bit slow so if you're not totally into it after the first one pick up the next one and things'll open up for you.

I think I'll start reading it soon myself. As for other good comics check out Ed Brubaker's Criminal trades. They're actually minis under the ICON banner dealing with criminal/noir stuff all from the criminal's perspective. His last story arc just ended and it blew me away (first time i've read his Criminal) called Last of the Innocent. It was quite a read. The characters were all riffs on the ARCHIE characters with the main character being "archie". Sean Philips (Brubaker's collaborator on the book) did an amazing job on the flashback scenes which clearly were ARCHIE like. I'm actually surprised that the folks that run ARCHIE Comics didn't sue or anything.

Criminal is a mature readers title and has some material not seen in your regular comics. Anywho in the backmatter to Last of the Innocent Brubaker mentioned that their next project (i'm guessing also for Criminal) will be a massive 12 issue storyline as the title usually is made up of 4-5 issue arcs.

                Re: Comic Book Fans....

Bam. Went to the local comic book store that is literally about the same size as my office. Anyway, didn't have any of the #1's I wanted except for Batwoman. I did subscribe for Batman, Batwoman, Action Comics, and Swamp Thing.

I also picked up these TPB's:

                Scalped vol. 1
                Walking Dead vol. 1 & 2

I had Batman and Son in my hand, but couldn't pull the trigger on it for some reason. I will most likely get them to order me some TPBs in the future.

What comics are you guys getting next week? I was thinking about Batman: Dark Knight and Superman.

I'll give All-Star Western a shot next week. Not sure what else will be good but Justice League Dark and I, Vampire look different at least.

SPTO, when does the new Criminal arc start? It seems like a pretty cool series.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through Scalped and it is great. It is relatively slow, but I know this is going to be an awesome series because while it sets everything up it touches on a so much. It basically feels like I'm reading a pilot to a tv show in the way that this has been setting up plot-lines, characters, and relationships. Pretty great thus far. Bad Horse is seriously badass.

Seriously, I don't know why Dc is dicking around with a possible Deadman TV series and such when Scalped could fit in perfectly on HBO or Showtime. I believe that creators on Vertigo have more control of those things though. If I were writing it i'd be looking at shopping the idea to TV as well.

From what I understand, this is it. This is a "soft" reboot of the entire DC Universe. Some of the things that happened in the comics before still happened, some have not. I guess we'll find out as we go.
