Re: The Dark Knight Discussion
Reading a script and actually pouring your heart into a roll are two entirely different things.
His characteristics and mannerisms are what made the role so unique and brilliant.
You want to know what's crazy? Saying that any actor could have just come in and read the script and been as good. That's actually just downright disrespectful - to downplay such a brilliant and unique performance that is just pitiful.Comment

How is it crazy, exactly?

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion
Heth Ledger is the Joker. He puts Nicholson to shame. No one has given us the comic version of the Joker on screen the way Ledger did. It's more than just a shame for comic book fans that he can not do the role again.
I wouldn't be surprised if actors in the future decline taking part in auditions for the role. Knowing that you have Ledger's performance to live up to? Nearly impossible to overcome and that actor will forever be compared to the man that did it best."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion
Ledger made the Joker actually seem like he was about to jump out of the screen and 'put a smile on that face.'
Whenever the Joker was on the screen I was always interested into what would happen because you wouldn't of been able to expect what he was going to do. Especially the magic trick when he interrupted the mob meeting.
Whenever he was off of the screen and Hale was on it, I wanted his part to get over just to see the Joker create even more mayhem.Originally posted by Altimus GTRBums.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion
This is why Ledger's portrayal is amazing. He was the Joker. This is what people are saying. This is how Joker should have always been played. Yet, he never was. Ledger did it. No one else did. There's nothing crazy about that fact."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: The Dark Knight Discussion
Just got back from seeing it. Good movie, great follow up to Batman Begins. While I liked Ledger as the Joker I just don't see why everyone makes such a fuss over the acting job he did. I'll put his acting job on par with Jack's but IMO it's not any better. Bale's deep Clint Eastwood like voice as Batman got on my nerves, I hope he tones it down a bit in the next movie. Overall a good movie that lived up to the hype.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion
Very good movie that didn't even seem like it was 2 1/2 hours. Ledger was outstanding as many have said on here. The disappearing pencil trick was classic by him.GT: Herkyalert
