Descent is awesome and wish I would have picked up the BD edition. I may still try to sell the DVD on ebay and just get it on BD.

8 It would have got a 9, had it had a clown in it.

I agree, the movie has to be right up there with good horror/suspense like High Tension in the last few years.

An 8 or 9 on the EG Meter.

          Yes, I'm an idiot.
This question lends a lot of credence to the belief that HD-DVD is really going to trounce BD on the issue of name brand recognition. Not even the biggest moron is going to walk into a Best Buy and wonder if an HD-DVD will give them an HD version of a DVD. But that's a legit question for a "Blu-Ray" disc for the uninitiated.

I guess the BD camp is counting on you to read the box and say, "Wow, beyond high definition! This must be better than HD-DVD!"

I think I gave it a 9.5 when I reviewed it on my blog last year. I loved it.

Well in your guys opinions, what are the biggest differences between the two? And what will I need to get either one? I have an HDTV already. I guess thats the big component I need What else?

The cheapest route for you is HD-DVD, you already own a 360, it's a $200 add on.

Personally, I have both, love both, but prefer my movies on HD-DVD due to features and encoding.

The movies look basically identical though.

It's also worth noting that since the 360 add-on has no HDMI, you can't send True HD or DTS-HD to a receiver. The PS3 has HDMI 1.3, which means it can output True HD, DTS-HD, Lossless PCM Audio, etc.

Very true, between the 2 game systems, the PS3 owns the 360 in sound quality. If I only had a HDMI receiver

:y4: Yeah, I know, just had to clarify.

Anyway, I just finished watching Blackhawk Down... man, I forgot how much of a tearjerker ending it was. When the credits get ready to roll, and they read the letter from the soldier to his wife... WOW.

Overall, EXCELLENT movie. The sound was freakin awesome, and the picture quality, while not up with Crank, was still really good. I'd recommend it to anyone.

The picture quality on BHD is a tough call. On one hand, it looks great considering the inherent grain that comes with filming a war movie in a bowl full of dust, basically. But on the other, it definitely doesn't look as "perfect" as movies like Superman Returns or anything else with a lot of CGI. Overall though, movies like BHD provide a happy medium to me between the so-pristine-its-almost-fake PQs and the more grainy images that actually have a degree of "realism" to them. Unforgiven was another good example of this, though it's an older movie. The picture had some grain to it, but it still looked great and the grain added to the realism of the image for me. YMMV, however.

The sound in BHD is absolutely ferocious. Totally awesome.
