That Best Buy deal wasn't very good IMO.

I can get the same 3 movies for the same price on Amazon that I would have bought. LOL

        Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

Hi Everyone: I have a dilemma that you might be able to help me with. I am an avid DVD watcher/collecter and am afraid to jump into the HD/BR war because my TV is a 42inch lcd that maxes out at 1080I. I was at CC today and bought a upscaleing dvd player for 79.99. I was thinking...does my 360 upscale dvd's to near HD quality or would I have to purchase the HD-add on to upscale normal dvd's? I figure when I purchase a new 1080P TV next year or 18 months, there will be a winner to the war.

I guess my question is this: Should I just purcahse the HD-add on to upscale normal dvd's and watch HD-dvd's in 1080I or am I just fine with my upscaling dvd player and not bothering with Hd because of my lack of 1080p?

Wow that was a mouthful. Thanks in advance guys.

I say go with the Add-On. Also remember in order to Up-Scale SD DVD you need to connect your 360 via HDMI, as you can't Up-Scale via Component. The 360 DVD Drive is OK , but IMO the Add-On does a better job. I game & watch all my HD DVD Movies in 1080I & they look outstanding.

Amazon is the best retailer site to get blu-rays. People will tout eBay, but eBay's been hit or miss for me on regular titles. Box sets and TV shows, I agree wholeheartedly.

'Unbreakable,' 'Hidalgo' and 'Coyote Ugly' Coming to Blu-ray in April

Touchstone and Buena Vista Home Entertainment are planning to release a trio of catalog titles April 1 on Blu-ray Disc. Comprising this diverse spring wave are M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable, Jerry Bruckheimer's Coyote Ugly, and the Viggo Mortensen horse epic Hidalgo.

It's still too early to report on technical specs or special features at this time. We can pass along Coyote Ugly will include both the theatrical and extended edition on Blu-ray. Look for additional disc information as the studio distributes it.

Unbreakable, Hidalgo and Coyote Ugly will all carry an SRP of $29.99. Check back regularly for updates and high resolution cover art.

Not sure if this is old news or not but you can get a free blu-ray disk for getting blu ray certified. Probably takes about 30 min to sit thru the videos and answer the 17 Qs at the end.

You can choose from: The Guardian, Chicken Little, Deja Vu, The Prestige, The Invincible, and one other.

Santa brought me a Toshiba HD DVD player this year. The player comes with "The Bourne Identity" and "300." I also got "V For Vendetta" and "Superman II." Looking forward to hooking it up tomorrow. Little worried about the whole HD/BR war though.

Here, here. You know, the more blu-ray movies I see, the more I'm starting to think the whole thing is a big scam. Not literally a "scam," but the only blu-ray I own, for example, is Memento, and recently I discovered a kiss of death: I put in the DVD version (upscaled, granted) immediately after watching the blu-ray, and, frankly, there was no substantial difference. I was pretty disappointed.

Not to mention, how much longer are we going to be buying hard copies of movies anyway? This is arguably the last "generation" of hard copy; within five or ten years, you gotta think we'll just be downloading everything anyway.

I don't know that I'll be buying any blu-rays unless they happen to be dirt cheap.

I personally do not see much a difference in upscaled regular dvds. Most dvds look pretty nice on a HDTV anyway. The big difference is when you watch actual HD discs (Bluray or HD-DVDs)

And if I am not mistaken, if you are watching dvds on a HDTV, your TV is upscaling the picture to begin with since it will need to upcovert any signal to its native resolution. So, having a player covert the dvd will probably just be bypassing your tv's built-in converter, which could be good or bad depending on what has the better chip, your tv or dvd player.

Nothing really intrigued me but the Potter films, but I passed on those. I know I'll never watch them.
