Like I said, it's just a hunch. I'm not going to waste a bunch of time trying to prove my theory, but let's just say this is Lost we're talking about, and stranger things have happened.

I'm all for hunches because we all make them but it just isn't a good one.

Kate cleary said, "Why would I go to his funeral?"

That alone confirms that it isn't Jack in the coffin. I'm not trying to put you down, I encourage people thinking, but it's not a good theory.

Who is? No one has attempted to kill them. Abbadon went to Hurley to get information out of him. Not to stop him from talking.

The only one at this point trying to stop someone from talking is Jack telling Hurley to stay quiet.

So we haven't seen one in a while presumably because the outposts were destroyed stopping the transmission to Dharma.

Maybe that's the answer. Maybe because they lost connection to the outside world DHARMA is having trouble finding the Island to drop off more food.

Maybe, that "rescue" team is DHARMA and Ben's fear stems from him knowing exactly who they are and why they are there. Maybe they are trying to find out why the connection was destroyed and who is behind it.

George Minkowski tells Jack, "Getting you and your friends off the island isn't necessarily our first priority."

So what is? Maybe the above.

I'll be guessing now that however it happens in either Season 5 or Season 6, Jack will lead the movement to get back to the Island and that will result in him finding out information on DHARMA, The Widmores, and the Hanso Foundation, if there aren't others.

I'd also like to know if Desmond stays on the Island. Can't think of any motivation for him to stay especially considering his connection to Penny and Naomi having her picture. If he stays, why would he? And if he does then I'm going to assume that Penny works with Jack in trying to figure out the big picture. If not, then I'd like to see if Jack and Desmond work together to get back to the Island.

I'm also curious as to what Jack really wants to do. Does he want to save everyone or does he want to return to the Island to stay forever? And how does whichever he chooses affect the people currently on the Island in the flash-forwards?

Just reading this thread reminds me why I love this show. It makes you think. The more crazy and unexplainable stuff becomes the more I like it, because I know they aren't just going to abandon big questions, and trying to figure it out in the meantime is fun.

I took it that they were saved and lied that everyone else was dead.

That's why Abbadon asks Hurley if the rest are alive. He knows something is up. But, the Oceanic 6 took some kind of private oath that they wouldn't tell the world that they just abandoned their friends.

And I'm assuming that whatever reason they won't tell hasn't been revealed to us yet.

I initially read your comment as if you were suggesting that someone in the outside world was trying to keep them quiet. But I think your comment makes sense if someone on the Island wants them quiet.

Yea, I definitely read it wrong. I see your point and it makes sense. They are afraid of something or at least promised something.

It's still very weird that only 6 went back or were allowed to go back. Whatever reasons they have for staying quiet I think has to do with how the 6 were selected to return...unless they are all back-stabbers and skipped out on the rest of the camp.

I think they want to remain quiet because the people who stayed on the island made a conscious decision to remain on the island "paradise". I think they were granted eternal life if they stayed on the island. If the people who got off tell the real story that the others are still alive, the island would evcentually be found and everything would crumble.

Why Jack and Hurley and Kate elected to leave the island and give up never ending life remains to be seen.

The only problem I have with this idea is Charlie's ghost or Hurley's imagination telling him "they need you". If they're happy living eternally in paradise I think they're ok w/o Hurley.

What about Juliet...Her name starts with a J.

I still think the person in the coffin is Locke because they are all eventually forced off the Island and Locke just falls to pieces without its healing power. He has no family and someone like Kate wouldn't dare go to his funeral because time and again he has (and will continue) to jeopardize any chance of getting off the island.

I'm reaching but thats what I've come up with.

I posted it earlier in the thread, but the newspaper said "man's body found" and Kate also mentioned "his funeral". So we know its a man.

I agree with you that it could be Locke. Its either got to be him or Sawyer. I could see Locke being forced off of the island (possibly by Ben since he's jealous of him) and basically falling apart like you mentioned.
