Actually there are many because many (including myself) think HD-DVD was the better format. Also comparing the HD-DVD to laser disc is a bit of a reach. The only similarity is they were both discontinued.

Ok... but it's over. HD-DVD is dead. Just let it go.

To find things such as this and go out of your way to post comments about it... I don't understand the mindset, that's all.

I see what you are saying but that can be said about a bunch of things. Take NFL2k5. Its dead but people still bring that up here to complain about Madden because they think it is better. Same goes for HD-DVD.

Is anyone planning on picking up the Dirty Harry collection on BR on Tuesday? I cant afford it, its currently 89.95 over at Amazon, but I would love to hear feedback from anyone who picks it up as it pertains to the picture quality or the audio quality.

EDIT- How many of you neutral guys sold off all of your HD-DVD's and went with BR exclusively? Im really close to doing that, I hate the load times with the HD-A2, and I hate knowing that if this thing goes out on me Im either stuck with a bunch of movies I cant watch that have lost their value even further or I have to buy a combo player which isnt something Im interested in doing either. The downside of course is the amount of movies I have on HD-DVD that are not on BR. Im going to list the biggest ones I would miss the most and if anyone has any insight on whether or not these will ever hit Blu-Ray I would appreciate anyone letting me know...

3. The entire Bourne Series
4. Clerks II
5. Christmas Vacation
6. Inside Man
7. Italian Job
8. Knocked Up
9. Lucky # Slevin

I own Pan's Labyrinth, Pimping, and it's one of the top 2 or 3 blu's I have in terms of picture quality, like 10/10 good. Can't help you much aside from that, except to refer you to here: http://www.blu-ray.com/. That site (obviously) is pretty much on top of everything in terms of what's out and what will come out and when.

The quick answer is yes. The million dollar question is when. Looks like most HD-DVDs are getting moved over to blu ray (sometimes with video and/or audio upgrades). highdefdigest.com is the site i use to keep up with everything hd-dvd and blu ray related. also found a TON of sweet HD-DVD deals there. gotta love a nice firesale.

Pimping219, personally I kept all my HD DVD Movies. (40-50) I also just purchased another HD DVD Player A-30 from AMAZON. I now have 3 HD DVD Player in my home ( A-1, A-30 & 360 Add-On) I kept all my movies because I invested too much $ to just off my collection & players..

As for HD DVD exclusives, more than likely they'll hit BR in the future. The only advantage a BR Title may have over an HD DVD title is the BR will probably have a higher Audio Codec than the HD DVD Version, due to the only studio that was using a HIGHER BIT-RATE Audio Codec was Warner Bros which used DOLBY TRUE-HD. All other HD DVD Titles used DOLBY DIGITAL +...

Video wise you probably will not see a difference

Im still stuck on the fence, I only have 1 HD-DVD player and no Xbox 360 any longer so Im hesitant to stick with it if the player has problems. I guess Im just trying to be proactive and avoid that problem now. Amazon Gold Box deal today - Die Hard Collection on Blu Ray for $56.99. This includes Die Hard, Die Hard 2 : Die Harder, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Live Free or Die Hard. I'd be all over this if I didn't own them already.

Do what I did and buy a combo player. That way you can keep your Hd-dvds. The samsung combo player can be found for under 400 bucks.

Are the combo players able to be updated yet? I thought the reason the PS3 was such a good BR player was because of the ease of updates and the constant updates to make it compatible with any future additions they make to the technology. Im starting to lean more and more towards selling it, I havent even watched anything on it in ages and am not that interested in a combo player. Again, I appreciate all of the feedback guys, keep it coming if anyone has any other opinions or suggestions.

Certain ones are. The LG and Samsung were both recently upgraded to profile 1.1. Profile 2.0 only matters if you want to play some of the web based games featured on the bluray. Im probably going to ditch HD-DVD though, after doing some more research Im seeing more and more of the titles I like are either out already, have a date coming up or are available as imports if wanted. I do appreciate all the feedback from everyone, I was really on the fence last night and this morning, and a lot of you guys made valid points but I may have to sell it for other reasons anyways.

Pimping, I went through and sold all my players and movies about 2 months ago and have no regrets as most of the movies I had are coming to Blu.

Yeah, I always get a little nervous when making decisions like this but Im fairly certain I wont regret this. HD-DVD was a great format, but its not getting much play in my house right now and with no movies coming out for it, for obvious reasons, it gets tougher and tougher to justify keeping it. Im selling a few of them on ebay right now but Im starting to think I should run over to avsforums.com and list them there, more streamlined listing might get them sold a little quicker.
