Re: Ok im late I know, The Wire
Underrated scene:
It's just so perfectly acted. Cutty was a stone cold killer, fresh off a 15 year bid and he was nervous as hell approaching Avon. By S3, we got familiar with Avon but this scene kinda reaffirms that he was still THAT DUDE in Baltimore.
The way Avon and Slim looked at each other and start laughing gets me every time. After seeing these dudes move hundreds of thousands of dollars around for 3 seasons, seeing Cutty go through a damn business plan for 10k is hilarious.
There's never been a show better casted than The Wire. Other than Stringer, I can't unsee these characters when the actors/actresses are in other projects.

Re: Ok im late I know, The Wire
Done.
Season 5
Spoiler
Prop Joe!?!? He was such a great character, but once he mentioned the thing about his family being the first colored family to own property I knew it was a wrap for him, anyone with respect for history loses in this show lol.
And Marlo, "I wasn't meant to play the son." Chris visiting his family threw me off too, but I guess that just reemphasizes that he's a legit soldier, dude was checking corners in paintball in everything. Killing is just the job.
I liked Omar but his death barely registered for me.
SNOOP?!? The way she got killed was perfect. I was indifferent to Michael since he showed up outside of him helping Randy and hitting Kennard with the 10 hit combo, but they nailed his ending. "You're just a kid." BANG "That's just your knee."
The serial killer mixed with the newspaper storyline was... Odd. I get everyone's motivation, it was just strange to see play out. Why would Scott throw his notepad in anger when it's blank? I didn't know whether to laugh or what. "EVERYTHING IS IN MY NOTES." Yeah OK guy. Only one at the paper I cared for was Gus. "Where do I find the homeless?" "Not at home, I'd imagine." Just needed to add now get the **** outta my cubicle after.
One of the funniest moments in the entire show: McNulty just got found out, doing the walk of shame to the interrogation room where Daniels and Rawls are waiting for him, everyone looking at him like he was on his way to execution, gets in the room, complete silence until Rawls breaks it with "... You're not killing them yourself McNulty, I mean at least assure me of that."
It's hard to compare to Sopranos because that focuses so heavily on one character, whereas Baltimore is the Tony of this show. As much depth as they put into Tony, I was constantly amazed at how they tie everything together in this show. Even small things like characters running into each other, just treated like an everyday thing. Dookie running into Poot at Foot Locker, reminds me of Marla telling Daniels "the only way to win is not to play", the constant chess references, it's impressive.
Very rarely do I finish a show and think they need to bring this back, and I don't really want them to, but it says a lot about how well they developed these characters that you really wonder how they turned out. No way Marlo can stay away, you have to wonder how Avon acts when he gets out. Ten favorite characters, top to bottom, Avon, Snoop, Bunk, Bodie, Wee-Bey, Prop Joe, Marlo, Bunny, Chris, Slim Charles. The way Avon asks Cutty "well what the hell else are you gonna do, you've never been anything else" and you can see a part of asking for himself, is just next level, Wood Harris killed this role. I now will be conflicted as to whether he's Julius or Avon, something I never thought would happen.

Re: Ok im late I know, The Wire
I was trying to figure out how they didn't win any Emmys but damn, West Wing, Sopranos, Lost Season 1, I'm not into 24 so I don't get that one... House and Heroes nominated over Season 4 smh. Throw the whole academy away.
I wish they had picked this for a prequel movie instead of the Sopranos, I'd much rather see the rise of Avon, Stringer, and Wee-Bey than young Tony.
UVA has a class on The Wire tho [emoji102], might have to look into that.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Ok im late I know, The Wire
They still should have had multiple Emmy wins. Except for The Sopranos are any of those other shows in The Wire's class?Comment

Re: Ok im late I know, The Wire
IIRC, the show really wasnt that popular during its original run. Almost got cancelled after S1. The change in the primary characters uhhhh demographics in S2 saved the show lol. I believe S2 was its highest rated year.

That last scene with Duke and Mike still ****s me up, man. Duke trying to reminisce about last summer and Mike not even remembering it illustrated just how much Mike really wasn't a kid anymore. Mike was 14 or 15 at most.NFL - Vikings

It's wild, man. That kid never stood a chance. Imagine being like 12 and coming home to all your **** being in the street, your parents AWOL and your choices are homelessness or moving in with your homie that's a drug hit man. Kid had absolutely no shot at a decent life.NFL - Vikings
