Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
What's amazing about the Lil Wane phenomenon is how Baby has managed to stay somewhat relevant in 2011. After Manny Fresh left Cash Money I thought it was over for him. With Wayne blowing up and the help of DJ Khalad/MMG he is still putting out music even after the Big Timers.
Honestly though, Wayne is a marketing genius, or his team is.
Puts out the pop records that they can play on the radio so he gets all the little kids to buy his music and stay relevant.
Nothing he is doing is new though, the rock crossover album, the singing, its all been done before.
All the real people that really follow music are tired of him. At least that's the vibe I get when I talk music with people. Obviously he has star power, but his raps are played out, so is his style. His punchlines since Carter II (When Gillie was writing) have gradually fallen off, and now every song contains some reference to taking a dump or something related. He's riding the wave of Drake and Nicki Minaj who have no question surpassed Wayne in overall popularity as far as music is concerned. No one is begging for a Wayne feature anymore (Except Khaled), definitely not like they were 4-5 years ago when he was on EVERYTHING.
His prime was Carter I/II which were by far his better albums than the last two Carters.
I'm done talking about Wayne lol
Just had the chance to quickly listen through the Trey Songz mixtape #lemmeholddatbeat2. From first glance I really enjoyed it, as I expected because like I said before, I enjoy Trey's rapping and really think he's better than most of the riff raff rappers doing it today. I really don't think he gets enough love when it comes to rapping. I think rappers especially are mad at these R&B cats trying to rap, but really I just think it's them upset that they are better than them lol
Especially Trey, has nice punchlines and of course can sing as well and incorporates it in his raps which I think makes him unique from say Chris Brown, who I honestly think shouldn't rap because he has a bad voice for it, which is funny.
I would give a more detailed opinion, but there is like 7 mixtapes I have to listen to. Trying to get caught up lolComment

Most of the guys out are terrible.
I am waiting on Slaughterhouse. That is about the only thing that will hold my interest for longer than 2 weeks.
Lupe is still that man too, though.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Yo are Mack Maine and Birdman HOSTING that mixtape? Or is that actually theirs?
If so, I'd imagine it is one of the worst mixtapes ever...Comment

Download link is at the bottom of that page, the review for it is at the top.
His album drops 11/15, same day as Drake's.Comment
