Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

I just went through the list of what came out this year on Wikipedia to see what I forgot and I still feel this year has been pretty weak. I know I don't have the deepest selection of guys I like to listen to, but not much has stood out this year, at least IMO.

All the albums I've listened to:

Game - R.E.D. Album: Big disappointment.

Big Sean - Finally Famous The Album: A few decent songs like So Much More and Memories, but Big Sean spits a little more hot garbage than hot fire.

Wiz Khalifa - Rolling Papers: No comment.

Lupe Fiasco - Lasers: I don't think I've listened to a single song off this album in months. It had a couple good songs, but the rest was a mess.

Bad Meets Evil - Hell: The Sequel: Aside from Fast Lane, this one never really caught on with me. I might give it another listen top to bottom sometime soon though.

Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch The Throne: Although it didn't live up to the hype (not sure it ever could have), I feel like it was pretty good. Yes, I know I'm contradicting myself having just said it was disappointing a couple posts above.

    J. Cole - Cole World: The Sideline Story: Out of all the albums I've listened, I feel like this was the best from top to bottom. Despite that, it doesn't have those one or two big hits that really tie everything together and I feel The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights are still better.

Wale - Ambition: Already posted my feelings. AD was a much better album. I'm not even sure there's one standout song to me off of this.

As for mixtapes, throw in Big KRIT - R4: The Prequel and Kendrick Lamar - Section 80 and I think that's about all I've listened to when it comes to albums/mixtapes. R4 had it's moments, but there's just some straight up boring tracks or ones that I just can't get into (could be because I've never been that big on much of anything from the South for whatever reason). And as for Section 80, I'd say that right now would probably be my album of the year even if it's considered a mixtape. I don't like every song, but just in terms of lyrics and the whole package, I feel like Section 80 has been the strongest over everything I've put up above.

With only this month and next month left in the year, I'm looking forward to the new Jeezy, Drake, Common, The Roots, and maybe Pusha T albums. Hopefully those are all or mostly good albums so that 2011 closes out a little stronger than I feel it's been.

Surprised no one is checking for the new Lupe mixtape on Thanksgiving day.

And that's not including the R&B albums from Chris Brown, Miguel and Frank Ocean.

I'm not saying that these are 5 Mic Classics from The Source or anything but they were at the least solid-decent albums. And don't forget Ludacris is dropping his mixtape this month as well and we know he usually goes in on his stuff.

But again, it depends on your expectations are because I know for the Albums I listed, I didn't expect them to really be any good or have any replay value, especially from The Game who I think has the best album out this year so far. WTT had high expectations the minute it was announced so I already had a feeling it wasn't going to match those.
Still need to listen to the Fab, Meek Mill, Wale, and maybe the Travis Barker tapes/albums you listed. Ace Hood, I don't know. I've never been much of a fan. He had that one song I really liked on NBA 2K9 or 2K10 but aside from that, not much of all.

Anyone bump Young Chris? His mixtape along with a host of others dropped today.

Called The Revival, always has been one of my favorite rappers from Philly. I think it's worth the download.

Nipsey Hussle and Trey Songz also dropped tapes today. Haven't been able to snag them yet though.

I don't know if any one else feels this way, but I really enjoy Trey's singing/rapping combo. Sometimes I think his mixtapes are better than his albums.

I used to think Ace Hood was a good artist to have if you needed a soundtrack for a Video Game but not to expect much if he ever did an album.

Boy did he prove me wrong but that's because I had low expectations for it anyway so yeah lol.

As for Lupe: after the massive hype it got from people on here and the disappointment that it was, a Lupe mixtape doesn't really get me hyped up.

Just give me Pusha and The Roots and then I'm good for the rest of the year. I'll be shocked if 103 comes out this year just because it's literally gotten bumped back like every other day

Although the Lupe album was a disappointment, Words I Never Said is one of the best songs of the year IMO.

From production to lyrics, he nailed it 100%. Still bump that song daily.

Pusha is getting stale to me, don't get me wrong, I've always been a fan and he has bars but this "white" rapping is getting a little old.
