And new J.Cole songs. Plus, he apparently wrote an article for Player's Tribune a couple days ago: https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en...e-the-audacity

The Climb Back is perfection, the beat, the lyrics, the flows, everything. The other track is nice but I really prefer that one. Q’s feature on the new Gorillas track is dope. I’ve just been listening to a ton of drill, it’s hard to transition to anything else from the energy.
DMX vs Snoop seems like a mismatch but from what I hear X held his own. He’s probably another of those you had to be there people. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of DMX is Party Up and I ****ing hate that song.

I think I've listened to X more over the past couple years than when he was putting out stuff regularly. I think it was easy for people to undercut his actual talent due to his persona and image, but the man has verses.

Oh my god, this new Drake feature. The first time I heard the British accent I was not into it. War and Demons brought me back. This new song I’m back off the wagon, mans has lost his mind. I can’t not laugh listening to this. First you get “look like Youssef”, then this guy actually gives an Arabic bar. “4 in the cliz and one in the headie, hand no shake man hold that steady, you man love pose with the ting for the picture, you man shouldve bust that ting already, you man love hesi hesi, can’t backchat to the presi, you know when the beef just taste like veggie”........Then the whole last part is just awful. This might be the most unintentionally funny song I’ve heard since Wayne’s comedy rap era.

Hearing him in the Godfather of Harlem intro got me going back to listening to his early **** and yeah, man, DMX had the juice.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

So I've talked about this a bit in this thread about how I can't really stand today's hip-hop and I don't go out of my way like I used to trying to find really good stuff. The top songs on playlists through iTunes/Spotify/Apple Music always did the trick. I used to visit RapGodFathers daily around 07-09. Not nearly that dedicated anymore, kinda stopped looking for new music around 2013-ish unless it was from an artist I already knew, with a few exceptions.

Anyways I was just thinking cause I'm attempting to play the "Rap Life" playlist on Apple Music, which is today's top hits and I seriously can't stand any of them.

So for me, 90's/00's hip-hop is my favorite and my age probably has a lot to do with that (33). So my question is if you were making say a top-20 or 25 rappers of all-time list, how many artists from the 10's decade would be on there? I'm sure Kendrick Lamar would make everyone's list, I actually like him. Not really a fan of Drake, I did enjoy his late 00's, early '10's stuff but the **** he's been releasing since that Views album is garbage to me.

I ask these teens at my gym who their favorite rappers are and they drop names like Juice Wrld or DaBaby or Lil Baby or A Boogie with a Hoodie and it all sounds the same to me and it's garbage.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

I wouldn't bother making that list, there's too many rappers and they can't be compared in a meaningful way. Busta Rhymes is an infinitely better rapper than Young Thug, but I'm not ever going to listen to a Busta Rhymes song/album unless I'm going out of my way, I much prefer Thug's music.

"Go in the house kids, essential ventures only, and
Mask over the mouth kids, and if you didn't know me, call me
Rap Anthony Fauci, that black blackity grouchy mouthpiece
Ramadan breath, prayer rug pointed at Saudi"

Lupe's at it again. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Flo Milli's album is catchy as hell. She's got like a bubblegum, cheerleader voice but is just talking ****, it's great. I didn't know if she'd be able to follow up Beef and In the Party but this is pretty good. The beat on 90' Iroc-Z off of Curren$y and Harry Fraud's tape is just beautiful. Same with Seven Seas and the Conway track. I listened to the Drake feature and it got worse. "Man try send some young boys for me, don't make me have to ride by high school". What a weird bar.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Another thing is eras don’t work for all rappers, you have to isolate their prime I guess. Like Black Thought is very highly ranked for me, and he popped up in the 90s but when I rate him nothing he did before Birds Eye View in 2013 is factoring in to that rating. The only thing that stands out from the 90s is him getting washed by Pun, he has evolved as a rapper. Same with Royce. Then on the other end of the spectrum you’ve got Eminem who in the last decade has relinquished any claim he had on a list of mine, but if he had been killed after The Eminem Show he might be the GOAT. There’s too much going on.

Because I used to sell CDs back in college and some after, I’ve conditioned myself to not get caught in my old head (I’m 41) bubble. Thankfully, I can appreciate some of this new hip hop. I’m a big of Lil Baby for instance.

I've never really understood how people just stop listening to new music. Like, I get HOW it happens. Hobbies and habits change over time. The medium itself changes. But like - I can't imagine listening to the same thing without adding something new to the mix on a regular basis.

Its like only watching the TV shows I watched as a kid.

I don't even want to think about what I was listening to as teenager either. I'm sure Outkast was in the mix, but there was some bad **** in there I'm positive.

I don't think anyone really stops entirely. I imagine there's lots of people like me that just listen to older stuff MORE whereas in my teens/20s I was always seeking out new music. Or explore older music from different genres. In the last 3 years I've listened to more 80's hard rock than I did the previous 30 years of my life combined.

But as you said, habits and life changes. I pretty much only listen to music when I workout now. I don't have long commutes or tons of downtime where I want to just listen to music like I used to. And with 3 kids I can't really just listen to rap freely in the house or the car anymore either, lol.

I like the BSF EP, could’ve used more Benny but Quarantine is dope. Griselda affiliate 38 Spesh also put out an EP, 6 Shots. On Flour City 2: “I talk different, from raw pitching, lifting weight doing construction in the kitchen, I’m fork lifting” and “**** you and your dead friends, put weight on your head that’s light as a feather, now y’all the Redskins” cracked me up. These guys have just mastered delivery.
RIP to Malik B, Black Thought postpones his EP release, may have had something to do with his death.
