Do the writers attempt to close the series just in case they don't get picked up? If they do, and they get a new season, is Season 4 the year that Fringe jumps the shark because the story will almost have to come out of nowhere?

If the writers don't attempt to close the series and don't get renewed, the fans will be pissed.

That being said, I think Fox understands the JJ monster. The man currently has four shows in development on various networks. Four. No one does that. It's like he thinks of an idea, tells a network and they say: We want it!

If they alienate JJ and destroy his show and anger his fanbase, he won't need to call them to pick up one of his newer shows. He's in such high demand, he can go whereever he pleases.

It's why NBC is very hesitant with the underperforming Undercovers. NBC has another JJ show in development and last thing they want to do is hurt their relationship.
One other thing is Anna Torv is Rupert Murdoch's niece. that gives Fringe a little leverage over other shows when it comes to getting cancelled.

Yea? I did not know that. Interesting thing to find out.

Anyone watching since the Friday move?

I have. Can't miss an episode (well, not true. If I do, I watch it on hulu the next day).

Last week's episode was good. Peter going assassin on people, wanting information.

Maybe it's just me or only the 4.5 million people that watch, but I don't understand how you can love Lost and not at least like Fringe.

If you are a big Lost mythology guy, electromagnetic reactions, the science fiction of alternate universes and the like, Fringe is somewhat the reality of all the things people wanted Lost to be about when it finished.

I get the bad feeling that the show was gearing towards wrapping everything up with this season, and now that it looks likely that Fringe is a big win on Fridays they are going to reign everything back into throw away episodes.

I'm not sure how much of that is possible at this stage. By this time they've probably filmed at least half of the episodes of the remaining 10 or so.

I think no matter what they had an end-game for this story line. If anything they can wait for confirmation on a renewal before the last two episodes are written and filmed, if necessary. It'll need to come soon.

It's either going to simply end with Peter destroying the machine or something to that effect so Walternate can have something to fight over in Season 4; or they wrap up the series by both sides becoming friends or the other world being destroyed.

Either scenario can be resolved in a two episode arc that doesn't need to be affected by the previous episodes.

It just seemed to me that, a few episodes into this season, they stepped on the accelerator. There were things that were set up, that never happened, etc. It just makes me nervous that they will pull the emergency brakes on the main arc and stuff next season with a bunch of monster of the week episodes.

What things were set up and never happened? I'm sure I've forgotten a lot.

Nothing specific, it just seemed to me that they did a ton of set up just for Olivia to abruptly go back home, they suddenly stopped the alternating universe episode thing and jumped quickly onto the device.

                          Re: Fringe anyone?

There is no reason to jump back and forth every other episode, like early in the season, since Olivia is home. I'm pretty sure we haven't seen the last of "over there" and all this is building toward a huge climax for the spring time. They haven't really done the monster of the week structure since early in season 2. Mostly every episode since then has advanced the plot in some way or another. I wouldn't be too worried about them slowing things down. I'm sure they have a few more ideas.

I also don't think this show is in danger of being canceled anymore.. I don't think it ever really was. Just internet gossip and the Fox Friday curse. And if it comes back for Season 4, a season 5 is a near safe bet. No reason to leave that syndication money on the table, that comes in once a series hits the 100 episode mark.

My favorite show on network tv right now since Lost ended.. If anyone watched Lost and never gave this a shot, you don't know what you're missing!

If I have 1 minor gripe, they should have kept Newton around until the end of the season!

This might have been a bit rushed, but I think that's a clear example of them wanting to make sure S3 was tightly wrapped up. If they were averaging 10+ million viewers, Olivia would still be in the other universe, I think.

Definitely a great episode. Makes me want to watch the pilot again to see if there were any reactions from Walter and Peter upon seeing Olivia. Something subtle, but noticeable with a keen eye.

I noticed that we're getting these background stories and it's a lot like the stories we wanted when Lost was on. It's just without all the hoopla because people just don't know that they're missing out on a great show.
