Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched a bunch of Film Noir lately, none really caught my fancy but I want to give a shout out to The Big Combo (1955) Like I said it didn't quite catch my fancy though I admit i've been watching the movies in the middle of the night and sometimes my mind wanders. The thing that makes me want to heap praise is the photography. This movie has some of the best moody and dark Film Noir photography i've ever seen. The way lighting is contrast with darkness and shadow is just a feast to the eyes.
There's even a wonderful sequence when the boss of the Combo of the film's title has one of his men killed. The man is deaf so the boss takes off the guy's hearing aid as he's freaked out and begged for his life. As soon as the hearing aid is taken out the sound goes mute and you see from his perspective the guns shooting him down. It was a bit unsettling and quite evocative.
So if you're interested in the technical aspects of film I encourage you to check this out. Hell, maybe you'll enjoy the story more than I did too!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Batman: Year One
It was pretty decent. Catwoman was dayum u-g-l-y and whoever did the voice for Batman didn't do that good of a job either,Cranston was great as Gordon though. Loved the "Heart of Vengeance: Returning Batman to His Roots" special feature, very informative and learned a lot of stuff I didn't know before, like how ridiculous some of the early comics were...there's a bit about the movies in there too. The Catwoman short was alright. Didn't watch the interview one yet,I was about to then paused it at the start and saw it was like 45 minutes long.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
50/50.
Wow. They did a really great job with this one. It's funny, but not overly, and it's emotional without pushing it.
I hope Gordon-Levitt keeps doing what he's doing, because he's been picking great films and great roles lately. It's funny that he used to be that kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun that disappeared, but now he's this grown, respected, rising star. He made some good choices in his career instead of just jumping in for the money and doing whatever comes along.
Seth Rogan is Seth Rogan. He plays the same pot-smoking, gotta get laid, swear every 3rd word character he always play. But they wrote him into to movie fairly well so that he doesn't ruin anything with it.
Chick from Twilight wasn't bad, either.Comment

Hall Pass. Loved it. You might have to have been married awhile with children and live in the suberbs to really appreciate it though. It was almost uncomfortable watching it with my wife though because I knew she was going to start asking me alot of questions afterwards about wanting a hall pass.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Paranormal Activity 3
For those who have seen the first two films, you know what you are getting into.
Compared to its predecessors, this sequel held the best build-ups, it was on a much larger visual level (good to some, not to others), but it was also unfortunately the most predictable on a scare basis. I will note that there are large exceptions to that last bullet I put, because the last 20 minutes I was trembling in my seat the entire time.
This one is the toughest to pinpoint what to talk about, because so much of it is spoiler discussion based (even if it's referring to the first two films). The rest of my impressions can be seen in the film's corresponding thread, because they will contain spoilers.
Overall, I liked the film's strengths, but the ending left with one caveat that I kind of didn't like (more so it's what other people won't like, but anyway...).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Jason X - Terrible. Felt like a softcore porn movie at first. I knew it was going to be bad with it being in the future and hearing other people talk about it, but it didn't have that classic Jason theme to it. It was more of a bad action movie then a horror film.
At least I can say I've seen all the Jason movies now.I'm a Vince McMahon Guy!
