    Menace II Society.

My wife had never seen the movie, and suggested we watch it. Nearly 20 years later and the movie still holds up. My wife was happy with the selection, and so was I, as watching it again made me realize how far I've come since I first saw the film in 1993.

                Moneyball.

Pretty good movie - don't really care about baseball for a second, but it didn't really feel like a baseball movie. Acting was good, story was interesting - well done all around. I didn't think the acting was as good as people made it out to be, though. I think Pitt and Hill both got nominated, but I can't really say I see why. Solid acting, but certainly nothing I'd consider academy nomination acting.

I would say that I agree, but Pitt just does something for me. No one can act as "cool" as he can. He just has it. Then again, I think that pretty much makes him a lock for any movie he's ever in heh.

Jonah didn't deserve it, but he was good. I think he was better in that it's possible to see him do films that aren't just comedies. For some reason, it's always great to see a comedian do a serious role, and just nail it. That's probably what people saw in him, and that's probably why he was nominated.

Then again, I can hardly ever see why certain actors/actresses are nominated over others.

                    The Ides of March

Movie revolves around a Democratic primary in Ohio. Loaded cast with an inside look at how dirty politics can be. Not sure what took me so long to see it. Enjoyed this one quite a bit.

                    Attack the Block

British film about a group of London teenagers defending their block against an alien invasion. The cast is likeable and Nick Frost even has a small roll in the film. Worth a rental or a watch if you can find it on one of the movie channels.

                    X-Men First Class

I'm not the biggest fan of comic book movies. This one surprised me though and turned out to be my favorite of all the X-Men films.

                      Safe House - great movie

Act of Valor - great movie. Don't recommend for people who have severe PTSD though.

The Social Network - it was on Encore last night, so I watched it. That guy was a straight up jerk. And it lived up to the stereotype of Ivy school girls are nothing but gold digging sluts.

The Jersey Shore Shark Attack - Seen part of it saturday when I was flipping passed the Scifi channel. Over the top cheesiness. Instead of The Situation, they had The Complication. Instead of J-wow, they had J-moni. Instead of Pauly D, they had Pauly B. Had a Vinnie wannabe, Ronnie wannabe, Snooki wannabe and Deena wannabe. Instead of the Shore Store, they had the Shore Bar. Pauly from The Sopranos was in it.

                        Madison County

This took too long to get going. It's fine for haunting/ghost movies but I was expecting a slasher. They didn't do a very good job of explaining things at all and there weren't any stand out parts or cool kills or any such thing. The things the people do are stupid even for them not being aware they're in a horror movie. Nothing to see here, just move along.

Because they live in a made up world of all kinds of surreal social interactions where if you try to apply the logic of the real world, it just won't add up.

Bingo. His performance came from out of nowhere....everyone was so used to see him in comedies.

                              The Woman in Black

Glad to see Radcliffe outside of Hogwarts for once. He had to carry the dialogue-light film in a similar vein that John Cusack had to do in 1408, only a lot of it came from seeing the look on his face. This movie had a pretty eerie atmosphere the entire time, but went for jump-startles quite often when it could. I'll admit, it got me a lot. Film wasn't fantastic by any means, but the slow-burn pace was great, and it became thematically disturbing at times.

                              Man on a Ledge

This isn't a carbon copy of Phone Booth by any means, if anybody went in there thinking so. Try and not see too many trailers/promotions before seeing this film, though. It would be best to just let it ride out naturally. I only knew Sam Worthington was in this film, so I was happy to see that Elizabeth Banks, Ed Harris, Kyra Sedgwick, and two other familiar faces (though I don't know their names as actors) also had strong roles. It sure kept me "on the ledge of my seat." Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Safehouse - Not great but good. Denzel was Denzel and that part was perfect for him. Ryan Reynolds also did a good job. I liked the South Africa environment and the scenes at the Soccer stadium were very cool.
