Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched Hercules (the one with the Rock) and White House Down today.
Hercules was all I expected. Entertaining action movie featuring Dwayne doing some cool ****. Solid movie.
White House Down was laughable. Olympus Has Fallen was so, so much better.Comment

Agreed. I watched OHF and WHD back-to-back when I first saw them. My Dog Skip
One of my favorite movies. No matter how many times I see it I choke up everytime at the end when Skip wants to jump on the bed but the arthritis is too much.
I had to leave my dog back home when I moved to the Philippines and my sister keeps one pair of my old shoes because she always lays her head on them. Sigh.... At least I'll see her in March.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
"Crime of Passion" (1957)
I'm a big Barbara Stanwyck fan and she's really good in this movie of a lady who gives up a promising career as a journalist to marry the man she loves (a cop) and become a housewife (ignore the fact that they only went on maybe 1-2 dates and saw each other not much more than that. It's the 50's.) who pushes for her husband to aspire to be more than what he currently is.
Some pretty risqué stuff in here for a 50's film. Stanwyck's character quickly grows tired of being a housewife and hearing all the cop wives yap on about nonsensical stuff. Soon, Stanwyck begins crafting a plot to try and get her husband to move up the ranks of the force, and becomes perhaps a little too close to head of her husband's division.
I don't want to give everything away because as with most noir films, there's a twist or two at the end.
Certainly worth a watch if you enjoy noir films.Currently Playing:

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Tomorrow, I plan to watch "The Shining". A Stanley Kubrick classic.
Jack Torrance: "Danny! I'm coming!"
Danny: "Redrum, redrum, redrum. Redrum! Redrum! Redrum!"
The Grady Twins: "Hello, Danny. Come and play with us. Come and play with us, Danny. Forever... and ever... and ever."
Jack Torrance: "Here's Johnny!"
Dang, those girls are creepy.Last edited by bradtxmale; 10-25-2014, 08:01 PM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Your posts make me chuckle. Sounds like you know the movies so well you don't have to watch them again. Have you seen a movie recently (or in your case plan to watch) you hadn't seen before? I'd like to read your first impressions.
I watched A Birder's Guide to Everything a few days ago. It was a nice little film. Nothing hugely special but was entertaining. It struck a chord with me a bit as the main character, while more then half my age, lost his mother to an illness recently and the movie shows some of how he coping with that loss. There was some good acting in these kids and I'm sure I'll see one or two of them in future films. That's always entertaining, watching young actors grow up and make their mark or fizzle out.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
John Wick. This flick is the real deal. Instant classic revenge/shoot 'em up. The gun play was awesome. Must see if you're into seeing blood baths and insanely high body counts.Comment

Glad I didn't take the gf like I almost did. The only thing I had heard was it's Keanu's best flick since Matrix. She wouldn't have dug the body count.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

The Judge.
Absolutely terrific diaglogue, but even more so, an amazingly well casted film. Everyone played their role to perfection. I wouldn't be surprised if Duvall wasn't given an Oscar nod, not that I pay that much attention to that any longer.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Gonna see "Fright Night" tomorrow. 3 days until Halloween. This is a horror classic from the 1980s. Back when Colin Farrell wasn't on the scene. Chris Sarandon stars as Jerry Dandridge. The deceased Roddy McDowall plays the unforgettable Peter Vincent. A real classic for anyone wanting to get that vampire movie fix. Its got werewolves, bats, and even zombies. Yes, zombies.Comment

Gonna watch these movies today.
"Fright Night 2"
"A Charlie Brown Halloween"
"The Blair Witch Project"
"Night of the Living Dead" (1988 remake)
"The Lost Boys"
Gotta do that. That would make Halloween complete.Comment

I haven't seen The Descent yet and today is a perfect day for that. I thought it was a pretty good scary movie. The dark caves were pretty creepy and solid monster.Comment
