My wife and I watched Oculus last night. It was pretty weak.

The Equalizer - Yet another solid Denzel movie.

That being said it's strange because I feel like with him this movie is 10 times better than it would have been with an average actor in his role, but I also feel like it didn't reach its full potential with him either.

I think it could have been edited in a much better way than it was because there were certain aspects of the plot that weren't really necessary. The security guard guy being one that sticks out. I'm also really disappointed the movie wasn't more focused on his relationship with Aleena because their scenes together in the beginning really hooked me into the movie but then she gets pushed aside in the grand scheme of things.

Another thing is -- and I realize this is an action movie -- they could have done without some of the action movie cliches. Mainly the whole casually walking away from a ridiculously huge explosion that would get Michael Bay from six to midnight in an instant, as well as most of how the climax with the main villain is shot.

So what takes away from it for me is that I think there's a much better movie hidden inside there had the plot been arranged a little differently, but overall I thought it was a solid movie and something I wouldn't mind watching again.

Just watched that yesterday and I agree. It's badass, but not original at all. Just a good action movie and a good performance from Denzel.

John Wick - I thought it was a pretty shallow story and really over the top with the shoot 'em ups. I felt I wasted my time.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

The Equalizer- It was good I guess, not as great as I had heard, Typical Denzel movie. 6/10

Gone Girl- I haven't read the book, but man the last 45 minutes or so were just bat**** crazy. Like WTF. Was good though, 8/10.

Interstellar- Very good, though not quite up to Nolan standards iMO. First half was pretty slow, some plot holes towards the end, but I'll still give it a 9.

Let's be Cops- I went into this thinking it was going to suck. But I actually found it to be very funny and was pleasantly surprised. 7/10

Point Break- Cant believe I had never seen this until the other night. Great movie, probably Keanu's best (though admittedly it doesn't have a ton of competition). 9/10

I had to special order the DVD of "Superman III', because WB didn't release a blu-ray here in the USA. I ordered it, because my copy was damaged somehow. WB hasn't released "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" on blu-ray, also. Its a good thing too, those movies are 2 of the worst movies ever made. I did order the 3 disc blu-ray edition of "Superman: The Movie", "Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut", and "Superman Returns". Sadly, they put "Superman Returns" on blu-ray. Its sad that they had to put such an inferior movie in HD. Its almost not worth the effort.
              Spoiler
It works better, if you buy the 3 disc set rather than buying "Superman Returns" by itself. Such an inferior movie should never be bought by itself. To be honest, its almost not worth watching. Its almost as bad as "Superman IV: TQFP". Thankfully, its not as bad as "Batman & Robin", "Daredevil", or even "Howard the Duck". "Howard the Duck" is clearly the worst comic book movie, EVER MADE. The order of the worst comic books ever made goes this order.

              1. Howard the Duck
              2. Batman & Robin
              3. Daredevil
              4. Supergirl
              5. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
              6. Hulk
              7. Superman Returns
              8. Superman III
              9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 version)
              10. Green Lantern (2011)
              11. Spider-man 3
              12. X-men Origins: Wolverine
What's with the hate for origins-wolverine? I found it enjoyable. But I have never read any of the comics if that makes a difference. I really liked the "deadpool" seen in the early parts of the movie. And actually that scene alone made me buy the deadpool video game.

But to movies I have seen recently. The last movies I watched were Man of Steel and Tammy. I liked the origin in Man of Steel. But I was shocked that there wasn't much reference to kryptonite. Seeing as that is Superman's main weakness. My dad is a big Melissa McCarthy fan so I got him Tammy for Christmas this year. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was pretty funny.

                Transformers 4

Absolute trash, the worst movie of 2014 so far for me. Bad jokes, terrible dialogue, stupid plot and it was way too long.

God Michael Bay really ****ed this up. I'm so sad right now.

Ah yes, the boyfriend whose accent went from American to Australian to Irish in and out of scenes... he even made Mark Wahlberg's character unbearable in their scenes together.

If it was a father-daughter storyline the entire time, it really would have been a much better film IMO. Also, if Transformium wasn't in the film. Lockdown was sick, Galvatron was not. I loved Stanley Tucci though.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - It felt weird. The world very much feels like the same world as LOTR, but the charisma and charm of those films wasn't there. At points the movie felt like old hat and outside of Bilbo and Gandalf none of the characters really stood out to me. I was hoping the Brown Wizard would return to the screen since he was one of the more interesting characters in the first half.

                            Rented "The Guest" last night.

It was awesome. Fun as hell. Same guy who directed "You're Next".

Soundtrack was badazz too. I highly recommend it.

                              The Theory of Everything

Amazing story of the life of Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane.

Eddie Redmayne was Oscar worthy in this. Fantastic portrayal and was so believable going though the different stages of ALS. The transformation Hawking went through was heartbreaking but he never acknowledge it and kept going with his ground breaking theories. Jane having to go through what she did with three kids was tough too. She honestly thought she just had two years with him and didn't realize the struggle but still truly loved him for a period of time.

Glad to see Professor Hawking, Jane and family approved the movie and said most things were true.

Great movie to watch with your lady.
