I got the restored version of Lawrence of Arabia on Blu-ray.

First time seeing it and wow, beautiful and sweeping. A successful epic because I never felt the time pass, and only ever wondered how much more time will I get with this film.

I hope I didn't embarrass myself too much by taking this long to see it, but the restoration makes this look as though it were practically shot recently.

Watched The Magnificent Seven last night with my 13YO son (I'm trying to brainwash him so I have someone to watch westerns with).

I really liked it. The acting, music, action..., it was all there.

It was very violent. But, and I hope I can word this properly, I liked how the killing wasn't glorified or hollywood-ized.
You saw the good guys getting murdered and it wasn't painted in a pretty light.
At one point, there are a number of men waiting in a trench, knowing they are about to engage in a very tough, bloody battle. Some of them start to weep.
So I liked how the violence wasn't glossed-over.

Overall, an incredibly enjoyable movie and one of the best westerns I've seen in a long time.
It's 2.5 hours long and it flew by! There were hardly any dead-spots which are typical for the average western.

9/10.

I never saw the old one and had no idea there was a old one in till a few weeks before the new one came out lol. I have not seen a lot of western but I thought this movie was great to. Also had a lot of funny parts to. The last movie I saw was doctor strange last night. Great movie simple story but good story and the action was great.

Alright, I have been watching some movies lately. I may or may not leave impressions on some of these because it's kind of a lot to absorb and recollect after having watched all of them, though I do have opinions on most of them that I'd like to share at some point. It's so long I have to alphabetize it, heh (the first three get a break since I have to list them in movie order).

Yuma's one of the better Westerns to come out in the modern era. Although not a Beach Boys fan, I had greater respect for them since seeing Love & Mercy. As far as the ending for Whiplash, it is story book, but I don't think it took away from it at all.

The discussions that happened when Whiplash came out regarding the ending and the moral of the story really fascinated me.

I guess I will just spoil this just in case even though I think this post is clear by the spoiler rules guidelines

There were some really hot takes regarding the teacher (good guy vs bad guy perspectives) and the drummer (forgot Teller's character's name)

The ending is actually very dark if you look at it from a certain angle. He turns his back on his father, who he disapproves of the entire movie (you have to look for subtle hints at this) to turn back to the man he truly respects who has put him through so much. The look on the fathers face during the solo says it all. He has lost his son, right there, at that moment, at the moment of his son's true realization. Pretty dark stuff IMO. What price did the drummer pay to reach his goal?

Lot of philosophical stuff too regarding the cost of greatness, positive vs negative reinforcement, self-worth, road to greatness being dark and cloudy, and what not. In the end it was clear that was one wa and one way alone that the drummer was going to reach his potential and the question is was it worth everything he went through to get there, and if so, is the teacher actually the hero for doing what he set out to do, inspire greatness?

If you watch the movie and listen to all the anecdotes about great drummers and the lengths it took to get them to where they wanted to be, they almost all happen in one way or another (including having the stand or whatever thrown at him) to the drummer throughout the movie. The director of the movie said that his vision was in the future you would hear that the drummer died of a drug overdose alone in apartment years later

I really liked that movie.

The actual performance gave me chills tho. I know it wasnt really him drumming but whoever was, that was epic ****

The ending is basically an accumulation and biproduct of everything that happens to Andrew throughout the course of the movie (and the character's life)

Teller's character finally wins over the tyrannical instructor. After all the instructor went through to set up and ruin Teller at that show, that never would have happened, IMO. First, because he never would have let the kid keep playing; he would have stopped the show. Second, because he didn't go through all of this ruse to bring out the brilliance in Teller. He did it out of pure revenge for losing his job. He was a mean, psychotic SOB and his love of music would not have superseded his thirst for revenge on Teller, IMO. He had already driven a former student to suicide and it had no effect on how he treated his students.

His goal was to bring out the best in his students at all costs.

Is that not what happens? During the movie they talk a lot about what great musicians went through to get to the top. It almost foreshadows what ends up happening.

In the end, from a certain perspective, the teacher is vindicated. If you look at it that way.

Teller never would have broken through his evolution had that not happened to him
