If I catch it on randomly I'll rewatch it just for Diedrich Bader's parts.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I broke out the Pokemon nostalgia and finally decided to watch the Detective Pikachu movie.

Unfortunately it wasn't a Pokemon type movie in the sense I was expecting, and as good as these 3D animations are, after seeing the Disney live action movies, the bar has been set on CGI.

Most Pokemon were cameos or fillers.

However, the story itself was actually interesting with some big twists, especially at the end. Pikachu had the funniest one liners throughout the movie. Not a movie with lots of replay value, but still a decent movie.

So I've seen Game Night plenty of times before and actually own it, but it just played on TBS so I caught the end of it.

I didn't know there was a post-credits scene, but because they scroll through the credits quickly, it just showed up before I had a chance to change the channel.

And it was totally worth it!

Watched Godfather yesterday morning, I'd pretty much seen it through clips and just know the story through it being basic movie culture at this point, I thought it was good but my main takeaway is wow 3 hours is 3 hours. I love when Michael is in Sicily talking to Apollonia's dad, dude said "My name is Michael Corleone. There's a lot of people who would pay a lot of money for that information, but then your daughter would lose a father instead of gaining a husband." Cold blooded. Watched Part 2 this morning, he's about to takeover for Vader as my favorite movie guy...and the takeaway is still wow this movie is long as hell. I was looking at the runtime for Scarface, 170 minutes, dear god. I remember watching The Departed and thinking man this is long, but they're all like that.

Wonder what Pacino's average run time is. I fell like the minimum of those I've seen are two hours. Dog Day Afternoon might be a little shorter, though. Great movie. Has Fredo in it too.

You thought The Godfather was GOOD?? Faint praise for one of the greatest films ever made. I can't think of one slow moment throughout. I've forgot how many times I've watched the film.

Great scenes off the top of my head:

                Spoiler

That's just off the top of my head-This movie maximized every minute.

I’ve heard people say one of the reasons I can’t appreciate Seinfeld is because everything Seinfeld did special has just become normal, that’s kinda how I felt about a lot of The Godfather. In 2, Fredo gets on the boat, Connie pulls Michael’s son off...I’ve already seen what happened when Big ***** got on the boat. The “look how they massacred my boy” has been memed to death. I did like Sonny, but Fredo I didn’t like. Maybe seeing them grow up I could appreciate him, but it’s kinda like if I watched Paulie Walnuts in the episode where he’s freaking out about the cat, and never see him not being a nut, hard to sympathize. Sonny beating up Carlo was funny, one of the punches was so clearly missed that I could see it and I never notice that kind of stuff, that was awful fight acting. And the end was dope...but I was watching the last episode of Trial by Media on the Blago case and even his wife referenced it talking about the way the feds did a sweep on him lol, everything about the movie is so known.

Yep, current culture is humongous problem if you want for your kids to wait until their are old enough to be able to appreciate films without them being spoiled in the case of the popular classics.

The Sonic movie was nice. Only really 3 characters in the entire movie worrg really caring about, but Sonic had funny lines throughout.

Tom felt more like he could've been played by Chris Pratt. Not sure what it was, but just feels like he would've been great in that role.

Yeah, I was writing down the scenes so fast the Fredo GIF became an unforced error.

Tragic what happened to John Cazale in real life.

Haven't seen Dog Day Afternoon in years, solid movie. I'd add Carlito's Way for Pacino movies to see.

Godfather Part III: Probably the least spoiled of the 3, even though I couldn't not picture Sil Dante when Michael goes to say the line. Honestly it's really just Sopranos, they took everything these movies did and over 60+ hours so if I hadn't seen that I probably could've gone in fairly blind. But it was pretty decent, being older I can appreciate the behind the scenes of it all. Mary didn't jump out to me as terrible immediately but seeing she's the director's daughter makes a lot of sense. Reading her comment is so funny to me, she's like oh yeah it's just the Godfather, we grew up around that, it's like if George Lucas had hired his kid to play Anakin and it was just like oh yeah Star Wars, that's my dad's thing. Wish Tom could've been in there but the pay dispute makes sense I guess, Pacino definitely carries these movies for me but you don't want to see that reflected in your check.

What all do I need to see before I watch the Irishman?

I think it was the JJ Abrams pod, but Conan has been talking about this recently. Where certain pop culture references are now so baked into the culture that the reference is known without even needing the source. The example he used was watching a movie like Citizen Kane or The Godfather with his kids and his kids already knowing the key scenes and references thanks to The Simpsons (and obviously all the other millions of references).

Heck, The Simpsons literally did an episode on The Bronx Tale.
