He was drawing 6M a night at 10pm, do you really think he is going to lose his crowd? His crowd went to 10pm with him from 11:35pm. They will go back there with him.

Actually they didnt. There are more available viewers at 10 than at 11:30. Also his numbers in the most coveted demo (18-34) were horrible at 10 with him losing to cable shows.

A significant drop from Jay's ratings. That is to be expected though. People keep forgetting that Jay's ratings werent good until almost 2 yrs after he debuted. It took the Hugh Grant incident, for him to overtake Dave. You cant give a talk show host 7 mos and expect him to beat a legend like Dave. You need time to build your audiance.

Conan is, has been, and always will be, funny. You don't get jobs writing for SNL and The Simpsons and have your own talk show for several years without doing something right. Remember, it took him 3 years to find his rhythm for Late Night. And now NBC (Leno) is pulling the rug from under him after only 7 months? We all knew that he was going to have to tone down some of his stuff so that the old folks watching after the news didn't get scared off by masturbating bear or tokey the anti-drug bong. The best thing is that since the news broke, he has found his swagger again and has been putting out arguably his best shows since the move. I hope he ends up moving Fox and NBC is left with Leno the one-trick pony whom no one under the age of 35 will ever watch again.

Or maybe NBC shouldn't have put Leno at 10PM, or Maybe they should have given Conan more time to find his niche on the tonight show like he did at late night?

I watched Conan plenty on the tonight show, and I think alot of his luster was lost trying to tone it down for the time slot. Anyone who watched him on late night knows what kind of comedy he is capable of.

NBC needed to give him time to adjust and get a feel for the new tonight show. It took him 3 years to get the ball rolling at late night, I just wish he would have been given a chance to do the same on the tonight show.

Well it looks like they have reached an agreement. Conan will get 30 mil and a immediate release from his NBC contract. I hear there is a 6 mos - 1 yr, no compete clause meaning he cant move to Fox or ABC until 2011. Jay gets the Tonight Show back and moves to 11:30.

I heard Conan's sticking points of the exit agreement were two fold...NBC financially taking care of his entire crew who moved from NYC to LA and having the non-compete expire by September. So let's hope its a 6 month non-compete. If so, he'll be on Fox by the Fall.

The Simpsons has run its course. Conan can't save it now. I would steer well clear of that if I were him.

Conan has the Midas touch, IMO. Even some of the shows he's written that were cancelled were good. I was a big fan of Andy Richter Controls the Universe. I'd love to see him have a chance.
