So let me get this straight. If I get a 4G phone before July 7th, I go grandfather in to 4G unlimited, but if not when I do upgrade I will get pushed into tiered data?Comment

Re: Official Android Discussion Thread
All these changes the carriers are making are going to push consumer, in the States, to start paying full retail. The subsidies are getting to the point of being worthless on the backend. Some people think ATT buying T-Mo is going to be good for the consumer lol. Shortly it will be the Big 2, Verizon and ATT.Last edited by SoMiss2000; 06-20-2011, 08:27 PM."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

Re: Official Android Discussion Thread
I'd seriously consider getting an LTE device in the next few weeks to keep my unlimited data plan, but the only device that remotely interests me is the droid charge. It's a last gen device with this year's s-amoled plus tech. If Verizon had the Galaxy S2 with LTE, i'd probably sell my iPhone for it.
Although, I really don't use that much mobile data. I mainly check my e-mail, use pulse to see all my favorite web page updates and sometimes stream some pandora.
I think the only people who would even go over 2GB/month are watching netflix movies, live tv or other bandwith intensive apps. Plus, how long are you without wifi a day? The only place I don't have wifi is in my cubcile at work and I don't have much time to play with my phone then.
I'd prefer to have unlimited data, but its not that big of a deal.Comment

Re: Official Android Discussion Thread
We have also been told that this is for both 3G and 4G smartphones and that there are not separate plans depending on device. So if you are under contract currently, you should be fine and don’t need to run out and buy a 4G phone just to lock in as we’ve seen other sites seem to want to suggest.
However, it's still not even been officially confirmed by Verizon yet. This is a big deal though, so there's no way the tiers go live before they have to explain situations like that. They've also had a history of forcing people to change plans to get new phones, so I'm skeptical.Last edited by bkfount; 06-20-2011, 09:33 PM.Comment

Is a 4G phone worth it for me though? I have an LG Ally which is probably one of the worst (I'm fine with it though) 3G/Android phones. I'd like to stick with Android if I get another phone tooEagles | Phillies | Sixers | Flyers

Considering LTE is faster than my home internet right now though, I'd never be on wifi after upgrading.Comment

Been around OS for a long time but never really looked in this forum until today. Anyway, I'm up for a new phone and thinking about switching over to Android from my iPhone 3GS. Ok, I've pretty much decided that I'm going to do it but now...what phone to get? AT&T is where we are now but I'm not opposed to a switch to Verizon.
Anyway...I've been eyeing the Atrix 4G for a few weeks now and just saw that AT&T dropped to $99. I went into a store today to look and a few things happened:
1) The Atrix seemed to be about what I expected. Nothing more, nothing less. In other words, I wasn't "wowed" by it in-store as much as I was online. Could be too much looking online though...
2) The laptop dock accessory is down to $299 and includes the handset. My initial thought was that, at $500, it was just a gimmick. I still find it to be a little gimmicky but $200 off plus the handset makes it a gimmick that I'd consider trying.
3) I was kinda wowed by the Infuse. Maybe it was nicely polished and the Atrix had been in the back getting charged up but it just seemed much more vibrant than the Atrix.
Anyway, I'm still leaning a little bit toward the Atrix but not as much as before I went in. Anybody try both? It looks like some of the early adopters of the Atrix weren't happy but wondering if anything has changed. The Infuse seems like it might be just a tad too big.
Also, any Atrix folks think it's worth an extra $200 for the laptop accessory? Like I said a $500-600 investment was too much for me but this deal is more realistic.
Finally, anyone believe that any Verizon smartphones are far superior to these two?

Re: Official Android Discussion Thread
I'm gonna be so pissed if that is the case. I've been on unlimited data plans for about 7 years now. Plus the only 4G phone I want is the Bionic which at this point is nothing but a shiny spec sheet and steady delays. Not real happy right now, but I will have to find out more information.Moderator

I find it offensive that they market the media benefits of having 4g speeds, only to cap it off at the knees. I use 2 GB's a month now, and that doesn't include when I do have wifi on. Who wouldn't be watching netflix or youtube videos while on 4g? That's exactly what they're marketing it for.Comment

Re: Official Android Discussion Thread
Tough choice for Verizon. For a company that boasts its availability and reliability, is this perhaps an admission they won't be able to handle the obvious onward peak in smartphone internet traffic? Is it an attempt to cash in on their growth or maybe an attempt to contain bandwidth use?
I checked my wife's and my data usage last night and in 7 days she is around 130MB and I'm well below at 15MB. I often uses wifi so I'm not too concerned. i also think we will continue to see areas with wifi growth, but we shouldn't count on that.
But yes, Verizon is just beginning to roll out this 4G LTE, switching pricing for data plans is sort of a step back when they are boasting such a robust connection in 4G LTE.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Official Android Discussion Thread
Yesterday was filled with the not-so-exciting news of tiered data plans that will launch at Verizon Wireless on July 7. The whole day got kicked off when we received an initial pricing tip on how the plans would be structured which was then followed up by an employee email... #TieredData #Verizon
Great news if true. The story says that current customers with smart phones will stay unlimited even when upgrading. The only way you'd be put in a tier is if you add a new line and only that line would be tiered.Comment
