I assume that its possible that the show gets an increase in budget for the next season, not a large increase though.

Probably why they are keeping the season to 10 episodes honestly, gives them more money per episode.

Everything gets syndicated if they have enough episodes and if the show is good enough. Yes, it will be an absolutely butchered version of the show, but HBO will get paid big money for the show so they will do it.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that HBO plans Book III to take up two seasons. Might have been from the writer himself or the creator of the series.

Great show. I actually like the fact that anyone could be the next to die. It makes it even more intense. I'm rooting for Joffrey to bite the dust in a most evil way but I have a feeling that's not going to happen for a while. We shall see.

That's what GRRM would prefer. Nothing more than wishful thinking at this point.

HBO has those and more on their site. This is the background I am currently using for my twitter:

EDIT: There is something that I didn't quite wrap my mind around during the viewing of the episode, but I thought of it a couple of hours afterwards. Would you guys agree that Cersei sleeping with her cousin confirms that she had Robert killed? She had insisted on his appointment as Robert's squire, and he got him nice and drunk when they were hunting.

I thought the same thing. I also believe this was alluded to in an earlier episode. Great last show of the season. I wonder if the viewing public can jump from the drama of the first season to the somewhat fantasy elements that are coming up next season (dragons, white walkers etc...)

I still say the storytelling is uneven when it comes to all that the Starks are sufferering when compared to what the Lannisters are not, for example. When the Starks capture the Lannisters favored son, and he proceeds to tell Lady Stark that he attempted to kill her son by pushing him out of the window, then he goes on to make fun of Ned being beheaded. At this point she should have cut off his sword arm or killed him! that would have been consistent with everything else that has been going on. When she dropped the rock and walked away, the story dropped the ball.

That would not have been the Stark way, however.

That's a major difference between both families - at least at this point in the story.

After an excellent first season surely everyone is going to read the rest of the books?

Not only that, they have her daughters still (well, Cat doesn't know they don't have Arya). So if she brains her prisoner with a rock, she can expect to never see her daughters again.

After a relatively average launch of 2.2 million viewers, Thrones continued to edge higher in the ratings all season. With its season finale, Thrones hit a number HBO has been targeting: 3 million viewers. Adding the show’s repeat at 11 p.m., a total of 3.9 million viewers tuned in. The show continues to average 8.3 million viewers when you include all repeats, DVR and On Demand viewing.

Guess those readers pledging they would stop watching after Episode 9′s shocking event couldn’t stay away?

But the tagline for the series is that anyone can die at anytime. It seems the only ones dying are the characters that people like, or what the viewing audience would deem the good guys, for the most part. The Lannisters are getting away with murder literally, and the story to this point is not addressing or balancing the equity of outcomes.

At this point in the story (end of season one) there should at least be one dead Lannister. To me, the perfect opportunity for that was when Lady Stark addressed Jaime, she did not necessarily have to kill him but he should have answered to a mother's vengeance.

You have to understand who the Starks are as CHARACTERS though. In a Westeros that seems to be filled with honorless men, they have honor. They actually have a moral compass, to a fault at times, and thus we deem them our good guys. Will this change? Maybe the book guys know (I'm still reading Book 1)!

Simply evening the kill count does not serve the story nor does it fall-in-line with who these characters are.
