All Samsung tv's are glossy now days. As far as digital signals, numbers don't lie and quality in any digital or any type of technology these days is based off of numbers and transfer rates. Its impossible to reach the auto motion signals in certain Samsung tv's with only 10.1mbps.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
On a sad note, and then there were 2 (LCD/LED and plasma). Mitsubishi is getting out of the DLP TV game= no more Rear Projection Tvs.

Never owned one, but my friend has a 50" and it has very good PQ.
The 92" is down to under $3K on Amazon.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
My parents have a 50" Samsung they got back in 2006. Cool technology for movie projectors. Having to replace a bulb on a TV doomed it. That and the PQ gets worse as the bulb dies.
Speaking of this TV, the current bulb has somehow managed to survive for twice as long as the previous ones put in. As soon as it dies they are going to get a new TV. Any recommendations with one that has a matte screen? They have a lamp that will cause glare...They won't move the lamp...Luckily the only windows are behind it at least. 50-55".Last edited by SuperBowlNachos; 12-08-2012, 10:47 AM.Comment

We one thing about DLPs and the lamp replacements. Once you replace the lamp, it should basically be a "new" tv. Just like with a projector. My parents have a 50" Samsung they got back in 2006. I'm sure others will chime in with TV recommendations.Comment

For plasmas, Panasonic is the only brand I'd even consider. The ST Panny is way better than Samsung's 51" plasma.Panasonic makes some very nice plasma's. The VIERA series is very good.
I also like Samsung a lot. I'm looking at a few 3D plasma's and the Samsung model and Panasonic model I was looking at are neck and neck in most reviews. The Panasonic is a few hundred more so I'm leaning towards the Sammy.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
You're not fooling anyone there.
However, when you go the next size up, then the true comparisons can be made and it starts to come down to preferences. Black levels become a lot closer (Panny still kills in that department though), and the other things to look at are color depth, color accuracy, frame interpolation, 3D, their little faults (burn-in, "green blobs," buzzing, pinking, crush, etc), and price for what you're getting.
I think Panasonic televisions are over-expensive for better blacks, don't have the proper calibration tools to pinpoint color accuracy, and tend to have more aging issues. Samsung also looked better in the store when I compared the D series to the VT series.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

The VT series is nice, but it is a huge price jump from the ST or even GT. The advantages are that GT and VT support THX mode. I own the ST and love it, but I can see why someone may want the GT. Panasonic says their VT model can be viewed in any environment though, even though I've only viewed it in one. The Samsung plasmas are ok, but we get a lot back because of burn ins and random screen pops. Samsung plasmas aren't bad, it's just not the company I prefer or like giving money to. Only Samsung tv I could buy is their 8000 series LCD panel. You're not fooling anyone there.

I know you have a Samsung plasma Blzer. Not trying to say they're bad. If I recall you also got it calibrated, which can make a lot of tv's look nice. In the process one actually of doing my own tv. Stuffs tough on Panasonic's that's for sure. My color spectrum looks darn near perfect right now though.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Looking for help guys. Trying to find a good deal on a 32" television as a gift. I know they prefer Samsung and if possible at a good price 1080. I know that isn't really necessary, but that's what they want so thanks a bunch!Fan of....

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'm also looking into a cheap HDTV in the 32" to 40" range, as a gift...
Vizio / LG or any of those kinds of brands are fine...
I'm going to google, but:
Anybody run across any really great deals on that sort of thing?
Thanks!Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Best Buy has Deal of the Day sales on LCD's. They aren't every day and they're hardly the top brands, but they exist.
In recent memory, the 32" 1080p models I've seen discounted are from Dynex, Coby, and Hiteker. They aren't going to fork over the Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and LG LCD's that easily.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
