I meant to say how you hook components up lol

I use a receiver myself as well so it doesn't matter to me either.

Honestly, whether you go with a VT50 or the 8000 series Samsung, you're going to get a great picture. They're both awesome tv's and will be better than a LCD. You're just going to get a little better black levels with the VT in my opinion. I've done a couple cali's on the 8000 series Samsung and it ends up looking pretty close, but a calibrated VT plasma is remarkable.

Also, another thing to consider is that if you go with a Sony LCD you're going to experience the lag issues most gamers complain about, even sometimes in game mode, which most of the time, cannot be calibrated. There's too many advantages to plasmas at this moment.

I can tell all of you this, OLED's are the real deal. Once they get to a reasonable price range I'll be going with one. 4k's are ok, but there's no advantage to them at this time. If I had my choice between an OLED or 4k, I'd easily take the OLED. We're just getting 1080p figured out and 4k and even 8k are hitting the market. Ugh
4K will allow 1080p resolution with passive 3D. (currently 540p)

Oled's price not dropping til they figure out how to get a decent yield on the panels. Last I heard it was around 10%

3D TVs are already starting to fade out. Look at specs, few of the newer TVs have 3D. Trust me, the reason for 4k was not passive 3D lol wow

I shouldn't say all TVs are abandoning 3D but cnet did have an article on how the tv industry will be done with 3D by 2015, possibly 2014. Sorry if there was any confusion.

              Two things.

First, you said there was no reason for 4K. Bringing passive 3D up to 1080p is a reason for some. It's more of a benefit for those with a projector (bigger screen size to take advantage of the higher resolution)

Second, IMO 3D will stick around. I think we'll see glasses free 3D before oled will be anywhere near a price the average consumer can afford.

Ask Toshiba how glasses free 3D worked for them. I tend to agree with cnet considering they are almost always correct. 3D just isn't on demand. I have two 3D TVs and never use it. 4K will become necessary once programming supports it, which still can't support 1080p.

IMO, 3D is now a checkoff item included on most high end tvs (even on budget priced sets). Just don't see them simply dropping it at this point.

To assume that glasses free 3D can't/won't get done before oled or 4k gets to a reasonable costs doesn't sound reasonable. The major complaint most people have about 3D is the glasses.

                  Guess we'll see.

My major complaint about 3D is that my 2D picture is so spectacular on my display that I just couldn't care less about watching something in 3D. I have a Samsung PN64D7000 and I have never once utilized the 3D capabilities on it. In fact, I got a 3D Blu-ray player, 2 pairs of glasses and 4 3D movies when I bought the set and traded them in before I even opened them. It's a fad and a pretty stupid one at that. No way in hell this fad stays relevant by the end of this decade.

I can't tell you how awesome this thread is. I send a lot of family and friends here when they are looking for a T.V.

Does anyone know where I can find the calibration settings for a Sharp LC-60LE640U?
