Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
OLED has started. Sony and Panasonic have partnered for the future of OLED. Panasonic will sell this line for probably two years before plasma is completely done. It's sad to see plasma go, but OLED has all the benefits of plasma, with all the benefits of a LCD/LED screen. Personally, I'm excited for the future of OLED. OLED should be on the market in the next year. I wish they would've focused more on OLED than the 4k technology. I'd rather see OLED available in June than 4k's.Comment

It is easy to get image retention and burn-in on a Plasma. Go to AVS forums....look up various Plasma threads.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
You may not want to admit it, but there huge discussions about the pros and cons of Plasmas at AVS forum. Picture quality for movies and tv is EXCELLENT on Plasma. However, image retention is still a problem (burn-in if careless) and they are not a bright as LED/LCD.
As a gamer, I would NOT recommend Plasmas for gaming.Comment

No....I just want to inform people that Plasma has a big risk with static images. I've seen probably 200 plasmas in various settings (I travel a lot and own one).

If ALL you do is play ONE game and no other content then you might have a problem. I've had my plasma for 4 years and 80% of its life has been spent playing NCAA Football which has a huge HUD that has not changed since I got it. No evidence of burn in.
Burn in and IR is not a valid reason to stay away from plasma. No one ever said plasma was as bright as LED so I don't know why you brought that up again.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I have TVs from LG, Panasonic, Toshiba, Insignia, and Samsung in my house. Samsung plasma panel has IR/burn. Is it major? No. Is it there? Yes.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Not as bright to me is a great thing, the blacks look great and the screen doesn't hurt my eyes. The bolded part is just wrong, no matter what you have convinced yourself of. I have had two plasmas in the past 4 years and have done nothing to avoid these problems and I have never noticed any IR and def no burn in.
Look...I'm not saying NOT to buy Plasmas. I said be aware IR/burn in is still a much higher probability vs. LED/LCD. Some of you act like you own stock in a Plasma TV company.
Just because you haven't had problems, doesn't mean they don't exist.Last edited by Mr.Scarface; 05-06-2013, 05:48 PM.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'm just saying that a plasma set is great for gaming. Great picture, great response time, great motion, etc. Just have to be sure that you take care of it and protect it. I have seen IR on my screen in its early first or second month, and have taken the right steps to get rid of it within the half hour. I think I'm now at the point where I won't get it (at least not in nasty form), but I still don't take my chances. In other words, I still do screen wipes and full image content after watching a movie or playing a game with static images.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

PUT IT on a pure white screen....betcha there is something...then again, you wouldn't admit it anyway. Enjoy your TV.

You are the one that seems to have an agenda. No one is disputing the fact that more care needs to be taken with a plasma, however you are painting a picture like temporary IR and burn in are major issues.
It just ain't the case if you use some common sense about static images and lower the contrast for the first 100 hours.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Plasmas
Pros - Excellent black levels
- Best response times
- Clear cut best picture quality
- Better view angles
- Good for Dark rooms
Cons - Susceptible to burn in & image retention
- Heavier than LCD/LEDS
- Creates more heat
- Uses more power
LCD/LED
Pros - Don't use very much power
- Generate very little heat
- No fear of burn in or Image retention
- Light weight
- Good for bright rooms
Cons - Black levels not equal to Plasma
- Lower picture quality to Plasma
- Lower response times
- Lower view angle
Overall
Can everyone stop the bickering over facts. The fact remains plasmas do suffer from certain draw backs, the same as LCD/LEDs suffer from others as well. The people glossing over the plasma drawbacks such as burn in and image retention as if they don't exist is wrong also and can lead to uninformed people not taking proper care of a plasma if they go that route. Plasma fans acting like burn in/image retention don't occur is like a LCD/LED fan acting as if ghosting never can happen on a LCD.
So can everyone stop with the LCD/LED fans vs Plasma fans fight.

I don't want you telling people NOT to get a plasma for a reason that is almost non-existent. In my opinion they are the best HDTV for gaming, unless you go with a gaming monitor.YNWAComment

You said exactly that and I am not acting like they don't exist, the fact is they do. I am just giving you some perspective from my experience. Which seems to differ greatly from yours.

I would love to use a Plasma for gaming, but it is not worth the risk to me...however small.Comment
