Btw, wasn't sure where to ask this so here it goes in this thread i guess.
Lets say i buy one of those theaters in a box (i know its not anywhere near as good as a dedicated system but ignore that) how is it connected? The home theater in a box has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output.

So it goes Cable box plugged from HDMI out on Cable to HDMI in on receiver.
If i use my XBOX then it goes HDMI from Xbox to receiver.

Then HDMI out from receiver to HDMI in tv?

So it's really like 3 HDMIs because the receiver itself is the blu ray player so i don't need a separate HDMI for that since you cant plug it into itself.

I'd venture to say the usual suspects: Best Buy or Amazon. If you want high end--Best Buy's Magnolia Dept.

What type of finish are you looking for? Metal? Wood? If it's wood then you want to go to an actual furniture store (online or actually go in).

The one thing about tv stands is that most of them do not come already assembled. Make sure you ask up front.

We went to go pick up a tv stand we bought in store and the warehouse guy came back with a big box. After we asked for a cancellation he called his manager and they decided to go ahead and assemble it for us and deliver it.

Not a TV, but related ...

My 12-year-old Sony 5.1 receiver is dying, so I ordered a Pioneer VSX-822-K receiver as a replacement. Started to go with the 522, but I liked the idea of streaming music from my iPhone via Bluetooth.

I know there are better receivers out there, but I needed to be budget-conscious. Anybody have experience with this or one similar? Is it pretty good, relatively speaking?

Also, what's the advantage of running the signal to the receiver then the TV? My Sony receiver was before HDMI, so I'm running the U-Verse box and PS3 to the TV via HDMI then running the sound from the TV to the receiver via optical.

Can't speak to the receiver part, except for saying Pioneer is a solid brand. You would have also been safe going with a Yamaha, Denon and a few others in that category.

The main advantage is having all your components feed into the AVR then just 1 HDMI cable from the AVR to your tv. Its a much cleaner setup.

Your receiver has a BD drive?

I don't trust those combo things very much. I know you didn't want me to say anything about an HTiB, and I won't... but I just don't think those are very good in some department if they're trying to give you everything for one sturdy price.

And yes, if it has its own input for that particular drive, then you're looking at three different sources.

Best buy has the Polk blackstones for 349.99 and a Yamaha receiver on sale for 219.99. Save yourself the headaches and do it right the first time. For under 600$ you're getting a really good sounding system for the price.

I'm definitely willing to listen, even if it cost an extra 200-300 (considering i would still then need to buy a 3dd BD player) but what headache am i going to run into if i were to get the Samsung HTF6500 for 449?
