Thanks for the suggestion. Not really sure how to make heads or tails of those 3 separate builds apart from price point.

Monitor - would I be able to hook it up to my Sony 4K 900E tv?

The price point I saw was about $800.

Well it won’t play 4K games very well. It will be fine for 1080p but to be honest it’s not future proof.

If you get a 1080p monitor it would be okay but if your budget is 1000 bucks you can build a better pc for sure.

I definitely wouldn’t pay $800 for that. You can build a much better PC for that amount.

Yeah...I didn't. Saw it on Facebook Marketplace and just wondered what you all thought. I've been out of the PC market for 20 years. Thanks for all the input.

People really underestimate how fast their builds lose value. This is such a fast changing industry, what you paid $1500 for yesterday, is going to be half that in a month (exaggerating, but you get it).

If you ever need advice on building your own, a lot of us would be glad to get you the perfect setup for your budget.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

I know this isn't a tech support thread per se, but I thought I'd get the best possible answers here since you guys are used to opening up PC's.

I bought the Geforce RTX 2060 intending to upgrade from my 1060, but I've run into a snag. The card seems like it should fit into my tower (albeit barely), but because of one out-hanging part of the existing chassis, it doesn't.

The tower is a pre-built Omen Obelisk by HP, with the same dimensions as this Amazon listing:

                  https://www.amazon.com/HP-Computer-i.../dp/B07RS4QKBN

And there's a good reason I chose to use that listing - because the 2060 comes pre-built into that one - the exact same size case. That's why I expected it to fit when upgrading.

Here's a look at the inside of my tower - the card in there now is the 1060.

The only reason the card won't fit is because of that black piece of plastic attached to the other side by at least a screw. It has a soft backing and a hollow underside, which makes me think it's supposed to cradle a larger card like the 2060 - like, that piece is supposed to slide down to secure the card once it's in place. There's data to support that too, here in the upgrading and servicing guide for this tower (pages 19-20 for graphics cards, and the illustration they use is is FOR a larger card like the 2060, further proving the card is able to fit in this case):

The page you are looking for is no longer available or has been moved

Problem is, I can't get that screw out - it's in there so tight that it doesn't feel like it's supposed to come out. By contrast I got the two screws that hold the vent covers in place out rather easily. At this point I'm concerned about stripping the screw (at which point I really never will get it out) or breaking some of the other plastic if I try to force it any more.

Should I contact HP about this?

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Update: After convincing myself beyond a shadow of a doubt that the card would work in my system and I wasn't going to do anything too damaging by removing that piece, I played a little rougher with it and was able to pry the screw out. As expected, the piece just slid straight up and out of the housing, and putting the card in was a snap after that. I did replace that plastic piece (without the screw) over the card and it fits perfectly up against it. Seems like I won't have any issue with the card popping out.

And yes - the 2060 works. First thing it did was install a graphics driver and after that all's well. Right now I'm in the time-honored tradition of going through some of my games to see how badly this card puts my old one to shame.

Warzone is the big one I want to try but, ya know.... 30 GB patches.

I was looking day and night, waiting for people to sleep and everything to find a power supply.

Then one day bam, bestbuy had one 850W as i was about to get a Seasonic 750W one from amazon.

I have to pick it up Sunday but thats not a problem

After searching forever for a motherboard, I found an Asus Tuf board on Amazon, and the day they were supposed to deliver it.. oops, its going to take until June to get it to you.

I cancelled immediately and checked bestbuy and bam, they have one.

Bought it and asked for fast shipping. Of course they do the same thing on the day its supposed to be here, but at least they gave me fed ex tracking and i still dont have to wait til June.

Before that i ordered from 2 places that said they had it in stock, one was B&H Photos... the very next day the thing shows backordered... this has been crazy.

All of these dudes gouging for these boards on Newegg and ebay are gonna be left high and dry when the B550 boards come out in 3 weeks.

I couldn't find Corsair for nothing man, but managed to get an EVGA.

I found out Seasonic makes both of them so it's all good either way
