Re: ESPN Cleaning House
I liked Mendoza alright till she said a couple nights ago she believes in ties in baseball. That's enough for me.
I used to love ESPN growing up, couldn't imagine not waking up and watching sportscenter in the morning. But now... ESPN can go to hell. Despise the way ESPN is now, it's pure garbage, wish it would go under.

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Glad to see I am not the only one. Some of the stuff she says drives me crazy.
They need to bring Buster in the booth and put her in the crowd with a mic.
Go to her about once every other inning. I don't need to hear her talking non-stop during the game. I cant watch it anymore.
Ties in baseball? I spit up a little when she said that.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Loud and opinionated has always been popular on the radio, it just so happens that a bunch of guys with radio shows got put in front of television cameras.
Also, I don't mind Mendoza but I couldn't possibly have the strength of feeling some people have toward her if she attacked one of my pets. Everything said about her is so dramatic, it's ridiculous. Don't need to hear her talking nonstop during the game? She doesn't do anything close to that now lol, the hyperbole is too much.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
On the topic of ties in baseball...the truth is that they are more "pure" to the game than playing as many innings as it takes. What do I mean? Until 1935 there was NO night baseball, so there was indeed a clock - the sun!
On average there were 5-8 ties/year from the start of baseball all the way into the 1970's. I'm not advocating for "tie" games, but for everyone to get up in arms and state that "this is the way baseball was meant to be played" is just not correct. They played until the sun went down and then the game was done...tied or not."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

There are not ties in baseball and were not into the 1970's. Where are you possibly getting your info? lol
Below is a link to the standings from 1919, there were no ties at all.
Games typically started at 1 and if they lasted lasted longer than 6 or 7 hours (when it became too dark) they were started over the next day. But they were not counted as ties.I looked all the from 1935-1901 no ties at all.

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Just to be clear, there were no ties.
If it became too dark and the game was past the 5th inning and the game was tied, they restarted the game the next day.
If it was past the 5th inning and a team was ahead when it got dark they won.
What Mendoza was saying was counting games as ties in the actual standings like hockey does.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Check any of these seasons...and you'll see the ties listed. Further more, I didn't make this up - Bill James has written extensively on this!"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

They were not counted as ties, they were replayed.
In your standings the games listed as ties were replayed.
Below is a link to the actual standings that MLB goes by.
Also look at the standings your posted. It isn't counting the ties in the GB part of the standings. And again its because they were not counted as ties they were started over or replayed.

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
The forum is about ESPN.
She wanted to count ties as ties in the standings and not replay them.
And that is what I said from the very beginning. Your "point" had nothing to do with ESPN or Mendoza or what we were talking about.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment
