Hard to believe the day is almost here. Less than 10 days away, I thought for sure it would be pushed back again. Can't friggin wait.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Well if driving back the forces of oblivion (a.k.a. hell for that world), saving a world and having grand adventures holds any interest for you, then you will like the game.

RPGs like Oblivion are about adventure, combat and story. THe RPG aspect comes into play with the choices you make (such as how to treat people, if you steal, etc) and improving your character (do you want to be strong as an ox, smart as a whip or a very balanced character).

will this game live up to the hype is what i'm apprehensive about. I remember when Fable was going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I think it will, at least for people who are familier with the Elder Scrolls games. Oblivion is the next evolution in the series, so fans of the older games should really enjoy it. Now, for those who've never played an Elder Scrolls game before, it's hard to say whether it will live up to the hype for them.

The reason Fable did not live up to its billing was due to essential pieces getting removed from the game. It's idea was great but fell short due to technical issues and hardware shortcomings on the Xbox. I wonder if they could have pulled it off on the 360.

The thing about Fable was it was soppose to be the "Morrowind killer". Thats where all the hype came from in the first place and the devs kept clamoring about how deep it "is". But when it was released, it was'nt even 1/10th the size and depth that Morrowind was.

Do you guys think this game will play good on a Sdtv? I don't have a HDtv yet but am contemplating getting a 360 and playing this game on a sdtv until I can get a hdtv. I can't wait to be an Altmer ranger with high bow skill, and since I am on the subject, when it comes to character building would you guys consider Legolas a woodelf or altmer? I noticed in the lord of the rings he was tall like the elves in lothlorien. As you can see I am a real fan of rpg's.

Will it live up to the hype? Oh yeah, it will.

Bethesda is a SOLID production house and they know how to make RPGs, period. They've already put Morrowind and this game looks to be very similar, at least from a baselevel comparison. fable was truly a great game, but it wasn't what was expected. Based on what we've seen in videos and the Bethesda's past, I suggest anyone thinking about getting this game, DO IT!

I have mine preordered and can't wait till next week.

The one thing western rpg's have in common with their easter counterparts is that you either will love them or hate them. There isn't much of a middle ground.

The elder scrolls series has always been about letting you go about the game however you want; not even needing to finish the main quest to feel like you have accomplished something. That freedom however, comes at a price. Many people get too lost, and lose interest. Some prefer more direction with their rpg's. There is ALOT of things to do in a game like this. And sometimes you get overwhelmed and never truly feel like you are getting anywhere.

Will it be a great game? I sure think so. Bethesda has done an amazing job with the previous games(bugs and all), so i dont see a reason not to think that oblivion will be different. But will it be for everyone? not a chance.

This is definitely the type of game that fits my preferences. I hate the feeling of being restricted by artificial barriers in some games. in the Elder Scrolls, the only places you can't go are because the terrain makes it impassable.

I bought Morrowind as soon as it came out in 2002 and still play it now. I've played countless hours and I've never even finished the main quest. I just get caught up doing everything else that is available in the game.

To me the main strength is the ability to actually role play the game, rather than be steered along a linear path. If I want my character to go have a couple drinks after every kill, thats what I do. It takes some imagination, but you can immerse yourself in these games more than any other RPG I've played.

Think "Grand Theft Auto meets Lord Of The Rings".

Very open ended gameplay in a fantasy setting.

Honestly, to me, the Elder Scrolls series has always been a bit closer to Grand Theft Auto than a traditional RPG. Some of that freedom was taken away in Morrowind, but I used to play Arena (and then later Daggerfall) for hours and hours just doing whatever I wanted. It sounds like Oblivion has gone back to that. Taking away the schedules for NPC characters in Morrowind was a step back to me. Adding them back in gives you a lot of that freedom again.

Scout out a shop and see what he has, then wait for nightfall and use a levitate spell and open lock spell to sneak in a 2nd story window, creep past the sleeping shopkeeper and make off with his entire stock, then sell it two towns over? Easily doable. Pick the lock and just walk in the front door, another thing. I was bitten by a werewolf and became one. I was bitten by a vampire and became one. I was a horse thief. An assassin. A Knight. A leader of a mage's guild.

You can do anything you want, which makes it a lot closer to the GTA of RPG's in my eyes, unlike the linearity of a traditional RPG. So, will it live up to the hype? That depends on the player. If you're expecting a main story to last you 50 hours, then probably not. If you take your time and explore every hill and cranny that you come across, it will probably be the best gaming money you ever spend.

Didn't they go and add some silly compass that shows you where to go, kinda driving you to the main story?
