Re: IGN says PS3 might break you
I don't think it's all about the games from Sony's end. They're trying to market the PS3 to Little Johnny's mom (ie people that don't even play video games) plus it'd be the ultimate "baby-sitter" for Little Johnny if blu-ray dvds take off. I really think it's going to work out for them in the end and they'll make a boat load of $$$.Originally posted by KDRE

Certainly not HD-DVDs. Regular DVDs? I'd bet that it can - otherwise, it won't be much use to a lot of people.Originally posted by thegreatone0381I don't think it's all about the games from Sony's end. Most folks aren't going to re-purchase their entire DVD collections, and most folks don't want two DVD players hooked up in their living room, either...Shawn Drotar

Shawn, I have read that both formats will be backwards compatible...Originally posted by sdrotarCertainly not HD-DVDs. Regular DVDs? I'd bet that it can - otherwise, it won't be much use to a lot of people.

The blu lasers wont actually be able to play the DVD's, but the drives will have a red laser in them to play DVD'sComment

Re: more ps3 live news
That would be nice. Not just a simple sticky though, an actual PS3 forum to discuss the PS3 itself, Blu-Ray, Playstation Live (?), and PS3 games (sports, FPS, RPG, etc.) would be great. Not likely to happen.Originally posted by bergie56Is it possible to just get a PS3 sticky? It seems warranted with the amount of new threads every day on PS3Comment

Re: more ps3 live news
there was an all things 360 thread that was here leading up to launch... of course that was created AFTER MS had its E3 Press conference announcing official things.... right now there is only speculation, nothing officialOriginally posted by APOCThat would be nice. Re: more ps3 live news
We don't have a seperate forum for the xbox 360 so we're not going to have a seperate forum for the PS3. But a sticky I can handle.Originally posted by APOCThat would be nice. Re: more ps3 live news
People who are sick of them shouldn't read them or even post in them. It's simple.Originally posted by bergie56Thats not gonna happen since there never has (in my knowledge) been forums devoted to the systems however I am sick of all the PS3 threads that keep popping up.Comment

Re: IGN says PS3 might break you
Makes sense. I didn't think Blu-ray would read regular DVD's since it's a completely different format. Having a basic DVD laser makes sense because it would suck to buy new copies of already owned DVD's like he said before.Originally posted by dagger55Shawn, I have read that both formats will be backwards compatible...

You make a good point but you're forgetting that there is a cheaper alternative that does exactly the same thing...called a XBOX 360. And there is one key word you used. "If" Blue ray dvds take off.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Yeah a lot of people re-purchased VHS tapes though...Originally posted by sdrotarCertainly not HD-DVDs. Regular DVDs? I'd bet that it can - otherwise, it won't be much use to a lot of people.

It doesn't do 'exactly' the same thing or there would be no need for it (the PS3) to even come out. I don't know all the system specs/jargon (not really into that stuff) or whatever and haven't really studied up on any PS3 FAQs or anything, if blu-ray is the ONLY difference then you're right. I guess we'll have to wait and see what Sony says their machine can do.Originally posted by GraphikYou make a good point but you're forgetting that there is a cheaper alternative that does exactly the same thing...called a XBOX 360.
