I can say that I am geeked to watch more HD movies on my DLP! I just wish we didn't have to deal with a format war in the interim.

Re: IGN says PS3 might break you
No one has. HD DVD stand-alone players will be cheaper, which should be good news for non-gamers. As for Blu Ray, their installed base will be primarily the PS3, since the regular players are so damn expensive. At least Net Flix will allow me to view the high definition Blu Ray movies on my PS3 while I wait for a clear winner to emerge.Originally posted by bkrich83

Re: More PS3 Speculation
Re-read what I said. I was referring to the proposed launch. And for the record, no, I wasn't planning on there being two versions of the console. But I am not surprised since MS had two as well.Originally posted by burnwoodYou were expecting two SKUS, one with Blu Ray and one without?Last edited by APOC; 01-31-2006, 04:59 PM.Comment

Re: More PS3 Speculation
Got proof? This is way out in left field... Why would Sony be pushing Blu-Ray in ALL PS3 units and then turn around and make two SKU's? They have way too much invested in BD to do that.Originally posted by Erv1. According to an EB/Gamestop fax:
Non-blueray $399
Blue-ray $599
When did this fax go out? I have a friends who are managers at both EB and GS, I'll ask them if they got any such fax.Comment

Exactly means exactly. Right?Originally posted by APOCThat's exactly what I was expecting for the launch, although maybe a few months earlier.Comment

Re: IGN says PS3 might break you
That's my issue. Stoked on the higher defintion formats. But want a single format. My wife is already confused enough about how to switch from Cable, to Satellite, to DVD, etc. Now if there are two different types of HD DVD's she may just snap.Originally posted by JohnnytheSkinI can say that I am geeked to watch more HD movies on my DLP! Re: IGN says PS3 might break you
I know what you mean by the wife factor. We've had our DLP ISF calibrated and she can't grasp the improvements. She hates the abbreviations (HDMI, DVI, DLP, ISF, DVE, Avia) and just knows that we have a damn nice picture with quality source material. Watching "Desperate Housewives" and having her point out how much Teri Hatcher looks like Skeletor was all the purchase affirmation I needed.Originally posted by bkrich83That's my issue. Could be possible. They may feel people won't pay $600 for the system. Who know?Originally posted by ps2kingGot proof? This is way out in left field... Why would Sony be pushing Blu-Ray in ALL PS3 units and then turn around and make two SKU's? They have way too much invested in BD to do that.

Can't see it happening, not when Sony has so much riding on Blu-Ray and counting on the PS3 to be a Trojan horse in your living room.Originally posted by candyman56Could be possible. They may feel people won't pay $600 for the system. Who know?
And whats up with the $399 price tag for the non-Blu-Ray? Will it have a hard drive? If it doesn't its going to bring even more hate Sony's way because the non-Blu-Ray unit will be no more than the equivalent of the "Tard Pack".
At $399 with Blu-Ray, thats justifiable because of the Blu-Ray drive... At $399 without a hdd or Blu-Ray, well thats just going to give people more reason to hate on Sony.
I've seen all sorts of speculation but this one is just so far out far out there considering what Sony has riding on Blu-Ray.Comment

Um... playing the Devil's Advocate for a moment here... when HD is able to make it clear that Teri Hatcher looks like Skeletor, are you absolutely sure this is the best plan?Originally posted by Heelfan71

I think everyone is missing the point of this article. And the point is, there is actually a porn movie out there called Pirates. My imagination runs wild at the thought...Digital Playground, makers of the 2006 Adult Video News Award Best Picture winner Pirates, told trade magazine AVN that it would support the next-generation Blu-ray disc format.Comment
