Listen, technology is never standard. It's always in progression. That includes advances in burn-in, they have found solutions to make a lesser degree of burn-in, if any whatsoever in the newer versions. Just wait and see.

If you are willing to pay 10K for a TV, which is more than a lot of automobiles, and still accept that you might have burn in, then so be it.

The day I pay that much for a TV, is the day I'm playing point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers. (AKA Never)

There currently are TV's that are 1080p capable...they just can't take in a native 1080p source. The 1080p TV's today just deinterlace the 1080i signal, real 1080p TV's probably won't start showing up in stores until summer, when they roll out the new models premiered a couple weeks back at the CES.

Wow, that's profound, man. Does that mean it's safe for me to ditch my Apple II and Admiral 8-track player for something new? Maybe an Acer 286 and one of those new Sony Walkman cassette players?

I don't know; I'm scared. Can you offer me assurances?

And will you tell me next that the sun always sets in the west and rises in the east?

It's virtually a non-issue for the new models.

Now that is something I didn't know. There isn't a TV out that can accept a native 1080p source? Am I reading that right?

In the same tone, there isn't anything that can provide a native 1080p source.

Broadcasting-wise? Sure. 720p/1080i will be the standard for a long time.
But there is value to 1080p. High-definition DVDs will use it soon, and the pixel depth can create a more vibrant picture even on slightly lower settings.

The question is if it's worth the premium for. I suppose that depends on your budget.

That's correct. Even the current 1080p HDTVs do not receive it natively.
That's because, as mentioned - there's nothing that puts it out there yet. The PS3 may be the first device to market that does.

That's why the $1000 or more premium for a 1080p set may not be worth it.
When they can receive that signal natively? Then they may be.

Thank you for being the voice of reason here.

I'm not trying to downplay anybody here by saying if you're not with the new, your living in the past. That is what I'm getting from several of you, and I am not intending it to be.

                            1. According to an EB/Gamestop fax:

                            Non-blueray $399
                            Blue-ray $599

The non-blueray will still have the drive, but I don't like the two SKU plan regardless. If they had to charge $600 with everything then I guess it had to be done.

                            2. PSM claims PS3 online will not be a slouch and will be merged with the PSP somehow. This is going back and forth so take this especially with a grain of salt. However seeing Sony has a network planned for the PSP 3.0 update it would make sense they would have something at least of that calibur for PS3.

                            3. An EA job posting taken down implies the system will be released Christmas season. Since EA primarly is American it still doesn't rule out Japan spring launch.
