I think its going to be good, if not great. I mean all my favorite games are returning and every generation brings along new franchises.

I'm excited about the new features and all of them seem possible, most can be done through simple firmware updates. Sony online sounds great, I don't need it to be better than XBL, just better than PS2 online.

Price isn't a worry for me, I'm fairly confident it will fall in the $399-$499 range which is fine, because we are paying for the technology.

The DVR feature stuff is the only thing that raises a doubt... I'm pretty sure the HDD will be an add on; as long its in the $100 thats cool with me. If its released early, launch day or within the first 3-6 months then I think it should get could support especially with some of these talked about features.

I'm not down with all this arguing stuff... Its all about the games and Sony has never failed to deliver in that area.

IF the PS3 ships with a better online service than Live...
which would require a HDD, something Sony said wasnt included

and IF the PS3 ships as a DVR... which would required that HDD to be 100+ gigs...

How much is this bad boy going to cost with the Blu-Ray?

Not sure. How much would you be willing to pay for it? I would guess $499-$599.

i think it depends on how good it actually is. I would like to think I would pay anything for it, if its that good, but I don't know.

to answer you question with a price $600

Basic online setup, like storing your profile etc... doesn't really require a HDD. Its when you get into DLC and patch's the HDD becomes a factor. If the your profile (including friends list etc..) can be stored on a memory stick then you should be good to go as far as playing the games online.

I doubt the PS3 ships as a DVR, DVR functionality will come with the purchase of a hard drive IMO. Its just too much added cost...Sony has mentioned an 80GIG hard drive so if they can sell that as an add-on for a fair price thats where the DVR will come from.

One part of the PSM article that isn't just speculation waiting to be confirmed is the part about Blu-Ray. I'll quote it...

How does Sony expect to sell a sub $500 console? "it comes down to a mutitude of things," " On a basic level, the PS3's CELL and RSX chips can handle most of what a stand alone Blu-ray players circuitry has to on it's own". "Sony really sees Blu-Ray as a sure fire success. They're betting almost everything on it, and so they're going to take a pretty big loss on PS3 early on"."The formats massive capacity is awesome for developers, but alot of us are still not sold on the viability of the fromat outside that". " But hey, who thought UMD movies would be so poular?".
The bolded part says it all, thats hardware Sony doesn't have to pay for because its already part of the PS3's basic make up...Standalone require additional hardware for scaling where as the PS3 doesn't thus reducing costs.

We could see two sku's, one that will cost anywhere from $399-$499 and sell the HDD as an add-on... And another that includes it for say $599-$699.

I know there are those of you who claim you have never had a problem since you bought your 360 at lauch, but you know you have been frozen up playing a game before once or twice. The specs are the same in each one.

A lot of people realize now they should have waited and have begun selling their systems (isn't that right ExtremeGamer?).
my 360 has not frozen one time in game. It has frozen one time at the dashboard. Sorry to disappoint you.

What is wrong with you ppl. 600 bucks for a console? Especially when they is another console out 200 dollars cheaper. I know Sony has the name but *******, there will be plenty of ppl waiting for a price drop.

Also, the more I read this thread, the more half of this stuff speculated to be included in the PS3 sounds like hype. DVRs, Blue-Rays, 80 GB HDD, PS3 Live? Its sounds like to much to be true. If Sony wants to compete for the long run against MS, it would be wise of them to ditch a few of these features and settle for a competitive price point. Otherwise, the price will turn a few potential consumers off.

And remember, I'm all about the price. If Sony has all these glorious features, great but half this stuff I dont even need. Make most of these detachable additional features and let the diehards blow their money. I just want it to play games and have a nice online service.

The future of PS3 gaming (edit: well not only gaming, but home entertainment as well) will rely on a lot of these features that you dismiss so quickly. It may not make sense to some right now, but I'm sure we'll get more info to help educate those who care shortly.
