Larry is really good about giving correct info about the PS3, I don't think it will be as one sided as you think. I guess APOC you've never listened to one of his podcasts before.

This is the PS3 thread, this is where I discuss it and where it is suppose to be discussed. If somebody disagree's with my opinion about it, that's fine, but don't troll in here saying I cause the thread to go off-topic.

I think the statement you volunteered above is the reason threads go off-topic. As far as I'm concerned, you don't have anything positive to add to this discussion, so I'll refrain from replying to any more of your comments.

Call me crazy, but I still don't think little Johnny's mom is going to shell out $650-$700 on a PS3 and a game. Especially since there is a good chance that little Johnny may already have an xbox 360 if the PS3 comes out a year after the 360. Of course most of the die hard gamers will buy the PS3, maybe including myself depending on the price, but I don't think the mainstream soccer mom's of the world will.

I think that's a fair point - and Sony's only real concern. The combination of a high price and cheaper but comparable alternative that's already established in the marketplace is one that Sony doesn't want.

I think that making the PS3 a Blu-Ray Trojan horse - and make no mistake; that's what it is - is an idea that will work, but would work even better in 2-3 years. Most homes don't have an HDTV yet.
Most homes that do don't have HDMI-enabled televisions, which will be necessary to carry the 1080p hi-def signals put out by the PS3 anyway. And then there's the copyright issues.
I just think the push for Blu-Ray into homes right now is too soon, and it drives up the cost of the system dramatically - even though the significant majority of consumers have no real use for it.

I think Sony might be over-reaching. It's obvious that they're counting on the PlayStation name being able to sell anything - and it may indeed work, but I'm not sure it's a slam dunk at this point.

Aye -- there's the rub: it is indeed a trojan horse and there is always the possibility that Blue-Ray winds up like Betamax or Divx. It is unlikely to do that poorly, but it is not likely to win the war like VHS and DVD did. If Blue-Ray and HD-DVD run neck and neck (with Blue Ray costing more) it can be costly for Sony. Also let's not forget that we are very close to the download only format.

It will be interesting to see what Sony says. I think E3 is where the final price, date announcements will be made. If it isn't ...well then Bill gates will be smiling from ear to ear.
