Windows Vista does not back Blu Ray and this is why it will fail. Blu Ray is not well supported and this is Sony hype.

If you think people will spend $399 on something that plays HD-DVD's(with less studio support then blueray) versus $499 for something with a hardrive, blueray and game system that's hilarious. You honestly think people won't make blueray work on vista? That's laughable too.

They can barely get 360's on the shelves and people think they will drop the price. They wouldn't drop the premium for one(already includes stuff they'd rather sell seperately for much more individually), and at the maximum the core will go down to $279...

The question is, now that they have them on the shelves will they still sell at a good rate? It will be hard to judge how the "next-gen" will go until next holiday season. This holiday will be filled with PS3 shortages and 360 alternatives. It really is difficult to judge what will happen any time soon since many believe the PS3 will sell out due to shortages just like the 360 did.

Do you think mom and dad's are thinking blueray and hard drives when it comes to purchasing a video game system for the children? I don't think so.

Nintendo could be the dark horse come holiday time.

Its a good thing moms and dads aren't the majority...Most gamers are 20+ males... I think the mom/dad analogy is way over used on these boards.

Why would Blu Ray need Windows Vista backing? People only need Blu Ray players on their computers if Sony releases some type of burning drive for them which I doubt they are going to do, since part of the reasion for the creation of Blu Ray was to prevent piracy. It's for home theater use and thats the only place people will need Blu Ray for the time being. If it catches on and is a success, you can rest assured Windows will support it eventually.

I'm not convinced Blu Ray is going to succeed for a number of reasosn, but lack of Windows Vista support is not one of them. That just sounds like the standard Microsoft fan-boy dogma that's being spread to cast gloom and doom over the PS3 and I'm not buying into it. Though if it is the case that I am wrong and the PS3 ultimately becomes a failure because no Windows Vista support kills Blu Ray, then that just further proves that Microsoft wields too much power in today's market through their Windows OS.

Wrong. Blu-ray burner drives already exist in Japan, I believe, and will definitely be released in the U.S.

I agree that the majority of gamers are 20 plus males, but I would think that the secondary market is a typical 4 person household. That's where moms and dads make the decisions.

it expected its game division to post a loss of about 100 billion yen in the current business year, hit by start-up costs for its PlayStation 3 game machine.

Most notably, however, is the fact that Sony is expected to take a huge hit as the Playstation 3's launch near. Sony expects the division's losses to increase by almost $900 billion in preparing the PS3 for launch, though the company also expects to be able to sell 6 million units by March 2007, or the end of the next fiscal year. Also, once the PS3 is launched, Sony expects hardware costs to decline as time goes on, and they know they need to eclipse Microsoft's head start with the Xbox 360 as quickly as possible; Microsoft expects to be able to sell 4.5 to 5.5 million console by June, and Sony will need to make sure that their PS3 is able to sell at a faster rate in order to beat Microsoft.

Hopefully that means we'll see consoles selling at $400
