It's possible. If MS can add 1080p, then Sony can fix the scaling issues. I don't think it'll be an issue very long after launch, but it's a mess right now.

I think that is still a maybe as it appears right now to be just the way Xbox 1 was. If a game supports the resolution and so does your TV, then bingo, if not then defaults to lowest res. According to a dev on B3d in the thread I linked (ERP) there is a scaler in the PS3 but not one that is user controllable. so maybe they can change that?

the 360 has a very intense scaler built by the old engineering crew from WebTV/M2 projects who were brought into the fold to work only on it for 3 years. (I read in Xbox Uncloaked)

If one has an HDTV that supports 1080P then all this is a moot point right? Also, on a related note, if one has an HDTV that supports 720p and 1080i then again, this is a moot point right?

correct (as already pointed out) but the quality of the scaler then becomes an issue to your picture quality. DVR and cable HD systems, do their own internal scaling with a chip that is often better suited to the task than the one in many (especially cheaper) TVs. The 1080p models are all still high end so I expect those to have pretty decent scalers where as cheap 1080i sets often skimp to cut costs. mine for example introduces a bunch of wavyness and artifacts when going from 720p to 1080i where the 360 scaler makes it look pretty solid by comparison.

The quality of a tv's scaler may now become a bigger question when upgrading to that next tv.

Again, read the article instead of the headline. Contain within the article he simply states that "we don't know if its software or hardware" so to jump to a conclusion that its the PS3 and not the software is some grasping for straws because you simply don't know.

Alhobert, my apologies for the "fanboy" statement, but for some its a ring of truth in my statement. I should take Jmood88 advice and the advice of others who told me don't post about the PS3 here.

I dont see anything wrong with posting about the ps3 on this site. Its just that some people here get too happy when Sony does something wrong and some people (including you backbreaker) get too defensive when people post something negative about the PS3.

I know the PS3 is your favorite console but its shouldntbe that serious. No one here owns MS, Sony or Nintendo stock so the amount of loyalty that some of you show is kind of strange to me.

With that said, feel free to post about the PS3 just no personal attacks.

I got upset about the PS3 not because I have something against SONY, it's that they have made me not want to own the PS3 right now with the ridiculous moves that have made and continue to make. Will I buy a PS3? Of course since I'm a gamer, but I'll wait for sometime next year to get one.

I rarely post in this thread, but often read it. This is the perfect example of "the pot calling the kettle black". As bad as some are that try to rip Sony and the PS3, you're just as bad from the opposite angle.

I partially understand your frustration, but take a look in the mirror before criticizing other's. It's only a console. If you want it and like it, buy it. Who cares what other's think?

No one told you not to post about the ps3 but you have been the one saying that there is no point in posting anything about the ps3 since everyone on here are xbox fanboys yet you continue to get angry when people post about the ps3.

Right now the PS3 is the "show me" console. I really enjoyed my PS2 and the ideao of some of those games on Next-Gen is appealing. However, Sony seems to be out Microsofting Microsoft. They remind me of how MS used to try and be a big bully in the PC business. I think once the price drops** (and 1080i support thank you very much) I will probably get one to play MGs, FF, Ratchet, MLB, etc.

What is going on with Sony here and the PS3 is what I wonder? I almost wish just from the reviews and impressions that were getting from the games that they would have waited till March or April next year to release the system. It would have given them 4 months to fix system quirks and developers could overcome the framertate issues in games.

Sony had to get the PS3 out for the holidays this year. Even if its not really available, the perception that you can get one may stop some folks who want PS3 from buying a 360 or Wii this Christmas. I don't expect too many folks, except for your hardcore gamers, to be picking up more that one console at these prices.
