Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Impressions Thread

For anyone who played Morrowind on the PC, don't you love how all the cool mods we installed are part of Oblivion by default? Little things such as horses, cloaks and hoods, quivers for arrows, sheaths for the swords, mounted guards along the roads, inns along the roads etc were all stuff that weren't in Morrowind. The little details make the game so much better for me and they're attention to them in this game is amazing.

I also love the environments. The grass, forests, etc are a welcome change from the barren wasteland of Morrowind.

Is the 3rd person view as unresponsive as IGN said?
I hate playing 1st person games unless there's a gun involved. And even then I'd highly prefer to play with a 3rd person perspective.

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Impressions Thread

I played two characters until 1 in the morning, and I'm still floored. Two completely different experiences.

First guy I made: an Assassin. Left the tutorial dungeon and instantly tried to attack a guard to steal his horse. He shrugged me off, beat my ***, and threw me in jail. When I left jail, there was a house right outside the city gates with a little old lady sweeping the porch. Arrow through her head. Then went inside and saw the old man sitting at a desk reading with his back to me. Arrow to the back of his head, with so much force he slammed into the wall and slumped back onto the floor. I got a message "Your killing is being observed by Dark Forces...". Hmm...ok.

I leveled up rather quickly, so I went to rest. When I awoke there's a cloaked figure that invited me to the Dark Brotherhood, and asked me to kill a guy named Rufio in an Inn across the continent. I'm not one for quick travel, so I hoofed it the whole way, entering dungeons and ruins as I saw them. I found enough things to sell for 7,000 gold by the time all was said and done (that's a lot for level 1 or 2). Robes that were 2,700, etc. I found traps in the ruins and mephits that were extremely fun to fight against.

I got to this Inn and the guards immediately jumped me. Pulling out the sword and shield (I had my longsword poisoned), I dispatched the guard, and then for good measure I killed the tavernkeep and the bar wench too. Piles of bodies littered the floor of the Inn. I went upstairs and...no Rufio. I guess he got away during the scrum, I'm not sure. When I went back outside after resting though....wow! Night time, lightning and thunder and the most believable rainstorm I've ever seen in a game. I started on the main quest at that point, figuring I'd get back to Rufio later on...

Arriving near the Imperial City, there was a merchant outside in a full black leather outfit with a black hood. Hey dude, I like your clothes...slaughtered, now I have black leather armor with a black hood. My dude is getting triple damage sniper shots from stealth mode now, and I can zoom in and put arrows right into their mouths if I want to. I'm becoming so disturbingly good at slaughtering innocents it's actually making me start to feel bad. My wife thwapped me on the head several times last night when I would kill little old ladies or people I just came across on the road.

          Unbelievable, unbelievable game.

you'll get used to first person, i thought i'd hate it but it's better for fighting enemies and such. i use 3rd person when i'm running thru the lands.... 3rd person is KIND'VE unresponsive when it comes to combat cuz there's no crosshairs and it's really hard to look and aim @ enemies

3rd person is also good for sneaking. Like most people, I play in both. Combat has to be done in first person but its fun to run around in first person so you can see your characters cool equipment.

Coolest part in the game for me was when you take Br. Martin to the Chapel in the mountains; where he is hailed as Emperoer by the blades.

They unsheathed their swords, held them up in the air and shouted "Hail!" At that moment I unsheated my sword as well and shouted "Hail!" as well.

The game is probably the best on 360 yet. I'd say to anyone who liked Condemned's combat mode to pick this up ASAP. Like the other guys have said this game is a MUST-BUY! If you've held out, then hold out no more! There is really no excuse for someone to have 360 and not own this game!

I unsheathed my blade, but I didn't shout "Hail" or anything...my wife would probably have me committed at that point

I actually wanted to kill them all, but it wouldn't let me. Guess they're necessary players heh.

I was wondering how to get into the Dark Brotherhood. I read a book that told me that I had to do some dirt and they'll come to me after I sleep. I need to do some killing of innocents soon. I'll start off killing peasants, then work my way up to nice classy folk. With all that killing, did you find yourself a crib yet?
