GAME OF THE YEAR, period. No contest, nothing is even near the same level. GRAW? COD? Nah... better luck next time.

This will be the RPG that all others will be judged on going forward. I'm flat out floored. Ok, I've had it a day... and maybe it will go downhill fast, but I'm just amazed amazed amazed.

And I did the same thing as the good sir above and played 2 different characters. COMPLETELY different experience. Just.... amazing.

I was wondering how to get into the Dark Brotherhood. I read a book that told me that I had to do some dirt and they'll come to me after I sleep. I need to do some killing of innocents soon. I'll start off killing peasants, then work my way up to nice classy folk. With all that killing, did you find yourself a crib yet?
I haven't legally purchased one yet, but since I disemboweled everybody at that Ill Omen Inn or whatever it's called, I'm dropping my crap off there now and using it as a "base". Apparently I missed Rufio's sneaky little *** though, but he'll get his tonight.

I've played every Elder Scrolls game at launch since Arena on the PC (Elder Scrolls I), and I can tell you right now that's not going to happen. If anything, it starts ramping up in ES games as you go. Branching out, you find yourself having ADD or something, jumping from one quest to the next. This one just has so many more random dungeons and ruin instances that you will probably have an even HARDER time following ANY quests!

Played about 7 hours last night and still haven't closed a gate. I did try however but kept getting killed easily and I am level 3 not sure what is happening.

What's your class? Knowing the entire premise of the game is battling demons and the hell plane, I chose a Dark Elf, which has a natural resistance to fire. Then, playing as an assassin, they also don't see me unless I want them to see me. I waltzed through the first encounter with the Oblivion plane, probably due to a class choice.

I did play through it again with an Imperial Knight, and had a bit rougher time, since blocking the Imp's fireballs didn't always block it entirely.

TCrouch, you are killing me with your character and his expoits...LOL! Since I know you are a rpg vet, does this game stack up against the greats Ultima, Baldurs gate etc... or does it stand on its own merit? Please keep us up to date on that serial killer assasin you created, good stuff, man!

Damn straight I would have. I've already spent more time in prison than Robert Downey Jr. I tried haggling with this one shopkeeper who wouldn't sell me a steel bow any cheaper. She wouldn't do it, so I had to relieve her of her spleen and take the damn bow. When we're talking something on the level of a house? Oh hell, it's on then. I'll remove something far more painful than a spleen.

Yes. You can join all the factions at once if you so choose.

Baldur's Gate 2 had the single greatest single-player story and gameplay for an RPG ever made in my opinion...however, it was a HARDCORE "RPG". This game is more of a crossover that will draw new fans in, and is the bar that every other RPG will aspire to reach. Within the first night I've done more and had more grin-from-ear-to-ear moments than with any other game I remember previously. The sheer freedom you have when going from town to town is unbelievable.

My next goal with my stone cold assassin is to reach the next level of killing. I don't mean a house, or an Inn. I want to kill off an entire town. I want to own my own little ghost town. Hell, I'd put heads on pikes lining the road if I could. I wish you could move bodies...that'd be the best. Pick the bodies up, pile them in the town square and put heads on pikes around them.

But with regards to "stacking up", it's tough. It's such a visceral experience on a much deeper level than any turn-based RPG in the past. It's hard for me to even group them together. This is the closest I've ever seen to "living your own life" in a non-MMO game, and even moreso in most respects. The funniest part is, I've only told of my assassin's exploits. My other character is a Crusader, a goodie-two shoes, save everybody and their grandmother character. Talk about night-and-day experiences.

For me, this is the best first-night gameplay of anything I've ever owned in history. Running across the countryside, riding horses into the snowy mountains with the illegitimate heir, slaughtering unsuspecting folks by the dozens, stealing things (and getting thrown in jail), getting my bounty level to 10,000 in the first few hours, and watching my notoriety rating climb like the mercury in Arizona in July is a hell of a lot of fun.

I just honestly feel like I can do anything in the game, and that speaks volumes to its quality.
