In the same oblivion.ini you had to change to allow screenshots, find

    iMinGrassSize=80

The higher the number the less dense the grass is. I changed mine to 170. I thought at 171 the grass starts going away so don't set it too high.

This makes the grass very thin and sparse. With thinner grass, you should get a noticeable increase in frame rate. At least I did. It also helped to be able to spot those wolves attacking out of nowhere.
    I'll try this out. Thanks!

But it did bother me when you guys started acting like the hard-core RPG guys over on Bathesda's official boards are crazy and can't say anything good about the game. The first response I made to that was "You mean like what we do with sports games?". While I definately prefer Morrowind's apporach of creating sections of the world that are tougher than others and actually allowing to player to get tougher with respect to the world itself it is NOT a game killer for me personally. But just step back and think about this in terms of how you would feel if you were a hard-core RPG player. The whole point of "role-playing" is to allow you to create a charachter whose goal could be primarily to make friends and money, or to steal and play like an outlaw or whatever. Only in the mind of someone approaching with and FPS mentality would doing this and going up levels be considered "cheating the system". Its just what you personally want your charachter to be good at. You might not even be concerned about going up levels. That's just how you want to play your person. But the problem is that you DO go up levels for doing that stuff if you designed you charater to be good at that when you created it.

The leveling system is usually at the heart of most RPGs (and like I said Morrowind is the only one I have ever owned). If they were worried about people "cheating the system" this game would do much better as an RPG if it didn't have leveling in it at all and just allowed to to choose what skills you wanted to be good at to start with then develop them at your own pace. Like I said I don't think that enchanting items, making potions, working on your business skills, or sneaking around and breaking into things is "cheating the system". Is all what separates "role-playing" from just killing things. I could see how going to the middle of town and taping down the "Y" button so your 360 controller so that your guy just jumps for hours while you go take a nap might be "cheating" but who really cares? How does this affect anyone else who "plays it right"? Why worry about it any more than you would the guy who likes to play NCAA on junior varsity. Yes, you can buy training and yes you can create a used-car salesman type of player by setting Speechcraft, Alchemy, Sneak, Security, Mercantile, Enchant.... as your minor skills and playing them up so that they are ahead of your fighting skills. But even in the opinion of this non-hardcore RPG gamer the fact that that is the best way to do it is just plain stupid.

Let me put it this way: If EA said that they couldn't fix the football defensive AI and were just going to solve the problem of deep bombs and runaway scores by having the defensive players actually get faster and stronger based on how many points the offense scored many of us would go absolutely nuts. The not-so-hardcore sports gamer might thing we are crazy for worrying about it. After all it works for keeping things evenly matched. But it wouldn't be what most of us are looking for at all.

That's my point. Since you MUST keep your "fighting skills" up with your "charisma skills" it isn't much as an RPG. That doesn't make it a bad game. If fact it is a very good game. Just look at the review scores its getting. I still contend though that its more of a "First Person Slasher" than an RPG. It most definately is not the game the guys who have been anticipating it the most thought that they were going to get. That's why they are going ballistic over there. Stop looking down on them when we do exactly the same thing with sports games.
Thanks for jumping to conclusions on my 2 line post....

My statement was in general....if you looked at that board for the last year then you would know what i'm talking about unless your blind. They pick out every little detail that they think is bad about the game and go crazy over it. For example, a month ago the developers made the statement that they took out soft shadows (but kept them on trees and grass) and the whole frontpage on that whole board was filled with people going crazy about that.. even though the developers said that the shadows kill the framerate but nooooo a million people still had to say dumb stuff like..."but the developers promised!!! This sucks!!! They dumbed the game down on purpose for the 360!!!"....the stuff was even worse then some of the people on this board who go crazy over someone's jersey being wrong.

And truthfully what major changes other then the leveling really changed this game for the worse? Just face the facts....this is the game that they should've been expecting but the people just love to point out little irrelevant things that they think make the game worse. They can criticize the game if they want...hell it's not perfect but there's no reason to say the game sucks because a simple compass was added or a new leveling system that isn't even that bad was put in.

Oh and for the record yes some of the stuff that they say is exactly like the things that we over here like to whine about. I never said, "they whine about everything...we at OS don't do that!". All I said was "I would avoid that board if I were you....". It's basically the same thing a madden "fan/cheeser" from one of those madden bowls would probably tell someone else about OS on the easports board.

ok, finally caved in and got the game. I got the 360 collectors edition for $49.99 price matched at Best Buy. Can't wait to go home and play to see what the fuss is all about. I'm not really into RPG's but this one sounds better then your traditional RPG. I initially wasn't going to get the game because I don't think I can put enough time into it. But hearing so many great reviews broke my will......

Got it going on my PC. I'm about to exit the sewers.

Hot Damn! The game detected ultra high settings on my computer, and it's beautiful.

Combat feels so much better now. I've barely played, but I just wanted to get that it.

Well, the quest to get rid of it sucks like hell lol. It is kinda fun in itself, leveling faster and running around biting peoples necks.

I love this game like all get-out, but the inability to find unique weapons and armor randomly while exploring truly sucks. It seems like you only get cool weapons and armor upon completing requests. Half the fun of RPGs is finding great weapons and armor as you muck about through the world. It gives you a great "Hot DAMN!" feeling and makes crawling through the dungeons worthwhile.

I must qualify that by saying I have not messed with alchemy at all, so I have not enhanced any of my own stuff. Am I really missing out by not doing that?

                            :y4: @ Vinny... that's pretty nasty dude.

Quint... I would definately go into the Mage's Guild, get accepted into Arcane University and start enchanting your own stuff... I have found numerous weapons/armor's in caverns and had them enchanted. It makes it worthwhile to be able to enchant your own items, especially if you know how you got the item. I just love it. Plus, albeit the missions are tough, they are definately worth it. Even if you aren't much into Alchemy, etc... you can still enchant items using the Sigil stone you get from closing an Oblivion gate.

Off topic... has anyone gotten the "Glass" Weapons/Armor? Good lord, (POSSIBLE SPOILERS*************)

I tried to pickpocket the one from Rana at Blackwood Company, but no avail. I got into the family tomb on a fighters guild mission, and finallly get the sword, and good lord, that thing is awesome. It's so light weight, yet still a level 14 weapon. I can't wait to get the armor. And then, have that stuff enchanted.
