Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion
Why all of the Web browsing, news-reading and photo-viewing horsesh*t? I thought the Wii was a gaming machine? Is that the BS that was added in to hop the price to $250?
Nintendo clearly is kow-towing to the multimedia capabilities of the 360 and PS3 with the decision to add that crap to the console. And all along, I thought the Big N's mantra was, "It's about the games and gameplay," and I see this sh*t added that does nothing but inflate the price.
Color me disappointed the more I read about this thing. Now I'm really confused about my future gaming direction, considering I don't want to spend a ton of jack and am console monogamous.
Take care,
PK
With Nintendo, I thought they were going the other direction of providing us with an alternative gaming experience. Except they are providing us with an overpriced XBOX1 + a gimicky controller to hide the less powerful system. It even concerns me that in the Q&A, they could answer if games were going to be 16:9 and 480p at the least. Come on, the XBOX1 which was released in 2001 had those features in almost every single game as it was mandatory. Nintendo I bet doesn't make it mandatory which it is really sounding to me.
MS is giving you the choice to get the HD-DVD add on, but it's not necessary. Granted the 360 is $400 for the premi, but you won't regret purchasing the console. Slowly but surely, I'm starting to place the 360 on the same pedistal that the Dreamcast and XBOX1 are in my book. Both the DC and XBOX1 died premature deaths, but one was due to the lack of support + billions of dollars lost and the other was due to the next gen era looming around the corner at the time.
My vote for this generation goes to MS and the 360.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 09-14-2006, 02:13 PM.Comment

I don't need all of the extra multimedia sh*t on the 360 and PS3, but I do like my console to also play DVD's. That's the only Swiss Army knife feature I need and like, at least from what I can see.
Take care,

I'm starting to line up in that school of thinking, too, Candyman. I've been quite happy with my Xbox since 2002, so I guess it makes sense to stay in the family.

Even the Multimedia on the 360 is not nowhere near overboard like what the other 2 systems have presented. I think the biggest thing that has been hyped and is well worth it is the LIVE Marketplace. I think MS went into this next gen thinking that consumers want games, they don't want to primarily stream music + movies on the 360, view their photos, have the 360 cook dinner for them, and what not. We are gamers, and many of us grew up play Atari and Pong. We want gaming machines. If I want a multimedia center, that's why I have a PC period.Comment

Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion
It's hilarious to me the amount of people who own the DS complaining about the price of the Wii, because the concept of it is exactly the same. If you want similar games to say Pheonix Wright or Dawn of Sorrow on a console your going to have to get a Wii. I can assure you some of the most prolific games or most critically acclaimed Wii games won't go near the other two systems. Especially the quirky japanese ones since the system is going take that territory over with ease. Bottom line is that it is the only system you won't have to part $500 plus to walk out the store with a game and a extra controller.Comment

Cman is right. Out of all the system it looks like the 360 was geared primarily for gaming. If you want more bells and whistles you can build on the 360 but it's not necessary.
Who would've thought that Microsoft built the 360 primarily as a gaming rig.
@ PK if you do get a 360, The Marketplace is a lot like iTunes, it's crack. Downloading free videos, demos and games is where it's at.Comment

Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion
ExtremeGamer made me think of something I missed - I would need to buy a memory card to go with the system. So the Wii becomes a $300 machine. I think it would be a lot of fun but I am no longer certain if I want to pay $300 for it.DON'T PANICComment

I've never used iTunes, as I've never owned an iPod. I've owned an Archos and Creative MP3 player, both of which I loved/love. I've always thought the iPods were horribly overpriced until Jobs unveiled the 80GB iPod the other day for $349, with video capability.
That is a steal of a deal that will drag me to the Apple dark side very soon, as I'm almost out of space on my 40 GB Creative Zen.

The comparison of the Marketplace to iTunes is all the cool stuff XBL has available much like iTunes. The great thing about the Marketplace is all the free stuff you can get to try. Free demos where you can play the game and get a feel for whether the game is worth spending your hard earned ducketts on.
p.s. I don't think you need an iPod to download music to your computer from iTunes. Once it's on the computer you can transfer it onto any players that use Apples format and everybody pretty much does that since they dominate the industry.Last edited by Rodster; 09-14-2006, 03:31 PM.Comment

Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion
I have a HDTV, and still see why they aren't supporting it:
1. It cuts costs for developers, and assures they don't do work 90% of the audience won't appreciate(see #3).
2. It makes sure everyone is on a level playing field. The mainstream audience that Sony got last-gen won't be playing on a HDTV.
3. Also keep in mind the 360 has a good amount of games that look like xbox "plus" games on SDTV, the most notables ones I saw are Saints Row, DOA4, NBA 2K6 and PGR3. Nintendo avoids this issue altogether.
4. Nintendo has the highest kid audience of all the manufacturers. You can't expect them to have high-end TV's.Comment
