The simple addition of utilizing cover in this game seperates it greatly from Halo imo. It adds much more strategy to it. If the concept of being able to atleast hug a wall isn't implemented in Halo 3, I will be disappointed.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

If you want the Art book, Bonus DVD, and Metal Tin Can...........then I would say yes. The Tin Can alone is worth the purchase imo.

Re: Official Gears of War Impressions Thread

Im usually not one to praise a game, but GOW is one of the best games I have ever played. Just went through the single player with a freind and what a blast....calling for cover, flanking, pinning down, getting pinned down. The cover element alone makes this game special. Its so key and so much more like "war". No more straffing around and jumping to shoot a rocket in someones face.

GOTY....actually, best game I have played in a along time. MP is sick when you play with friends. Making a mad dash to save a downed buddy before he gets stompoed is great...

the people bashing it, you must be like those people that will never be happy......sucks for you

Is the guide worth purchasing if you only play multi player?

They sell 2 guides, 1 for $19.99 and then there is the Collector's Guide for $29.99 which is a leatherbound Artbook with the $19.99 strategy guide that fits into a slipcase. Very nice, but I didn't buy it.

I would think not. But I think guides are a waste period.

Guides do end up becoming a waste, especially if you buy them and they just sit there. You can get guides on the net through IGN and Gamespot even though their not like the guides from the store that are packed with screenshots, but their free.

I had a great time with Gears singleplayer after playing a bit of COD3 online last nite. It's an awesome game. I think those who are slightly disappointed have expectations that would have never been met. I mean, it's a shooter, ain't too much you can do conceptual-wise with a shooter. I think the new cover system is innovative and the best that has even been used in a game. I actually like that most of the moves are with the A button...keep it simple. I'm getting sick of games coming out and I need to be a joystick jockey to enjoy. Every shooter that comes out has the been there, done that feeling and this one is no different and Halo 3 will be the same thing. RB6: Vegas also, I'm sure will have the same Tom Clancy game feeling. For those who say it's not groundbreaking, what would be groundbreaking in a shooter?

I picked this bad boy up and it is a tremendous game. Look for Rainey84 online.

SoMiss, I'm glad that you like GOW. After all the [PEER PRESSUE] jokes , that is good that you didn't buy the game and then get upset that it sucked.
